Morena’s New Initiative: Addressing Political Migration<\/h2>\n

Facing the next extraordinary meeting of the National Regeneration Movement Council (Morena<\/strong>), the National Executive Committee (CEN) has proposed the creation of a New Militant Evaluation Committee<\/strong>. This measure aims to combat the practice known as \u201cChapulineo<\/strong>,\u201d which refers to political figures switching allegiance to other parties, particularly when seeking greater advantages. However, many former leaders from other political institutions already support this measure while standing in the ranks of the matryoshka party.<\/p>\n

Since its foundation in 2014, Morena<\/strong> has positioned itself as a party that confronts and criticizes the legitimacy of administrations from other political parties, such as the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI<\/strong>) and National Action Party (PAN<\/strong>). Its rise was notably accelerated by its alignment with the figure of Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador (AMLO<\/strong>), leading to swift gains in political ground. However, throughout its journey, various individuals\u2014often associated with the PRI\u2014shifted their allegiance to reap the benefits of governance positions and seats within the Congress of the Union<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One notable example lies within the Congress of the Union<\/strong> where political switches are becoming increasingly apparent. The incorporation of Cynthia L\u00f3pez Castro<\/strong> into the Morena bench in the Senate was particularly notable, considering that she had secured her seat while representing the PRI. Likewise, the former Governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat<\/strong>, aligned himself with Claudia Sheinbaum\u2019s project, further affirming his allegiance to the party.<\/p>\n

Another controversial case involves Alejandra del Moral<\/strong>, who contested against Delfina G\u00f3mez in the State of Mexico, representing the PRI, PAN, and PRD. In a surprising turn of events, she joined the Sheinbaum Pardo project and now holds the position of Executive Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

A parallel situation arose with Adri\u00e1n Ruvalcaba<\/strong>, who was the Mayor of Cuajimalpa<\/strong> from 2018 to 2024. Ruvalcaba resigned from the PRI and promptly joined Morena, subsequently appointed as the new director<\/strong> of the metropolitan public transport system (STC) or Metro<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Politicians linked to the PRI have also secured positions within the diplomatic service. For instance, Quirino D\u00edaz<\/strong>, the former Governor of Sinaloa, accepted the ambassadorship to Spain under L\u00f3pez Obrador’s administration, leading to his expulsion from the PRI. In a similar vein, Omar Fayad<\/strong>, the former governor of Hidalgo, now serves as ambassador to Norway.<\/p>\n

Other former PRI members receiving diplomatic appointments under the L\u00f3pez Obrador administration include Claudia Pavlovich<\/strong>, ex-governor of Sonora and consul in Barcelona, Carlos Miguel Aysa<\/strong>, former governor of Campeche and currently ambassador to the Dominican Republic, and Marco Antonio Mena<\/strong>, who served as governor of Tlaxcala and now functions as consul in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

While the initiative to evaluate the political profiles of new members will be discussed in upcoming meetings, some within the party, like Gerardo Fern\u00e1ndez Noro\u00f1a<\/strong>, have characterized this proposal as \u201cexcessive.\u201d The discourse surrounding Morena’s<\/strong> approach to political migrations illustrates a complex and often contentious relationship with former members of other significant political parties in Mexico’s landscape.<\/p>\n
