In 1882, during the <b>Pacific War<\/b>, \u00a0Andr\u00e9s A. C\u00e1ceres\u00a0&#8216; army achieved important triumphs in \u00a0Marcavalle, Pucar\u00e1,\u00a0 and \u00a0Concepci\u00f3n\u00a0, strengthening Peruvian resistance in the mountains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">In 1924, \u00a0Abelardo Gamarra Rond\u00f3\u00a0, known as &#8220;El Tunante,&#8221; creator of the name &#8220;Marinera&#8221; for the national dance, passed away. He was a key figure in journalism and politics, who also fought bravely in the defense of Callao. In 1932, Trujillo was the scene of a bloody military bombing during the \u00a0APRISTA REVOLUTION\u00a0, which left over a thousand dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">Internationally, this day is also recognized as the \u00a0Day for the Destruction of Firearms\u00a0, a UN initiative aimed at eliminating small weapons and reducing violence worldwide.<\/p>\n<div class=\"visual__image\">\n<picture><source  media=\"(min-width: 1000px)\"\/><source  media=\"(min-width: 768px)\"\/><source  media=\"(min-width: 580px)\"\/><source  media=\"(min-width: 350px)\"\/><source  media=\"(min-width: 80px)\"\/><\/picture><figcaption class=\"article-figcaption-img\">Three decisive fighting allowed Peru to regain control of the Andean center during the war: a victory that, despite not reversing the occupation, sowed hope and unity. (Andina)<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">During the <b>Bre\u00f1a campaign<\/b> in the Pacific War, the battles of \u00a0Marcavalle\u00a0, \u00a0Pucar\u00e1\u00a0, and \u00a0Concepci\u00f3n\u00a0 (July 9 and 10, 1882) marked a series of strategic victories for the Peruvian army led by \u00a0Andr\u00e9s Avelino C\u00e1ceres\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">These actions allowed them to recover control of \u00a0Paso de Marcavalle\u00a0, and \u00a0Expect Jun\u00edn&#8217;s\u00a0 Chilean troops. (BNP)<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><b>Abelardo Gamarra Rond\u00f3<\/b>, affectionately known as <b>&#8220;The Tunante,&#8221;<\/b> was born in Huamachuco in 1852 and passed away in Lima in 1924. He was a multifaceted persona &#8211; a writer, journalist, politician, and composer. Gamarra studied at the National College of Guadalupe and at the University of San Marcos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">He actively participated in the \u00a0Pacific War\u00a0, defending Callao and engaging in the battles of San Juan and Miraflores. Later, he joined the mountain resistance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\">In political terms, Gamarra was elected as a deputy and staunchly opposed the Anc\u00f3n treaty.
