This prediction comes from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (b><Senamhi). The agency has warned that these changing weather conditions will lead to heightened moisture levels, lower temperature records, and a more pronounced feeling of cold during night hours and early mornings.

Understanding the Meteorological Influences

According to Senamhi, the climatic shifts in the region are due to intensified southern winds and the presence of coastal vortices along Lima’s shores. These phenomena are expected to bring about increased cloud coverage, along with occasional fog and mist. Additionally, winds will sweep over the coastal area, enhancing the cold thermal sensation among residents.

The rainfall forecast varies across different zones in Metropolitan Lima. Residents in the south can expect around 1 mm of precipitation, while areas in the center and west will likely see approximately 0.5 mm. In contrast, the north and east sectors may anticipate about 0.3 mm of rain.

    <picture>
    </picture>
The Senamhi prognosis on the weather in Lima during this winter. Know the minimum and maximum temperatures for this day.

Temperature Outlook for the Coming Days

Senamhi also reported that daytime temperatures in the area will hover between 17°C and 20°C (62.6°F and 68°F), whereas nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to between 13°C and 16°C (55.4°F and 60.8°F).

This winter season, Metropolitan Lima is experiencing a significant rise in relative humidity levels, a phenomenon commonly observed at this time of year but now more acute in various districts. Notably, on July 1, the districts of San Martín de Porres and San Juan de Lurigancho recorded humidity levels at a staggering 100%, often accompanied by light drizzle. Areas such as La Molina (98%), Lima West (96%), and Lima Sur (97%) were also impacted by high humidity.

Recommendations for Residents

In light of these changes, Senamhi specialist Nelson Quispe recommended several simple yet effective practices to mitigate the effects of moisture within homes. One primary suggestion is to promote air circulation by opening doors and windows. This practice can help moisture dissipate through ventilation, thereby preventing water droplets from accumulating within personal spaces.

Moreover, Quispe noted that in districts such as Chorrillos, Barranco, Miraflores, Magdalena, and El Callao, many households tend to remain sealed completely. This lack of ventilation can trap moisture, negatively affecting the effectiveness of clothing and leading to bad odors and potential material damage. Quispe emphasizes that it is essential to renew indoor air regularly.

Senamhi further stated that it will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and encouraged the public to stay informed through its official channels, including its website and social media platforms. With increased humidity and cooling temperatures, taking precautions is crucial, especially in the early hours of the morning.

Amid these weather developments, residents are urged to keep informed, prepared, and safe during this transitional period in Lima.

General News – 2

The cold intensified in Lima despite not having officially started winter.
