The Deputy Secretary of Health and Education of the PP and future parliamentary spokesman of the Popular Group in Congress, \u00a0Ester Mu\u00f1oz\u00a0, has criticized the \u00a0second vice president\u00a0, \u00a0Yolanda D\u00edaz\u00a0, for her daily expressions of anger regarding alleged corruption cases involving the \u00a0PSOE\u00a0. Despite her criticisms, Mu\u00f1oz points out that D\u00edaz has not taken any substantive action to resign from the government or to abandon \u00a0Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez\u00a0. Mu\u00f1oz stated, “*If this is a borderline situation, what she should do is leave the government and drop Pedro S\u00e1nchez or at least demand a matter of trust. Why don\u2019t they present the issue of trust? Because Mr. S\u00e1nchez probably does not pass it,*\u201d highlighting the lack of accountability.<\/p>\n

D\u00edaz has recently intensified pressure on S\u00e1nchez, demanding that he move away from what she calls “immobility” and start signaling a commitment to democratic regeneration and social progress. Her announcement comes ahead of a significant meeting of the PSOE’s Federal Committee, where she has made it clear that the current legislative session needs decisive action. She insists it “*cannot go on*,” implying that the government must change its approach.<\/p>\n

Mu\u00f1oz also pointed out the serious allegations surrounding corruption within the PSOE, emphasizing S\u00e1nchez’s reluctance to call for elections due to his awareness that he would likely lose them. She referred to the imprisonment of \u00a0Santos Cerd\u00e1n\u00a0, a high-ranking member of the PSOE, remarking that he was \u201c*the architect of this legislature*,\u201d primarily through his pacts with figures such as \u00a0Arnaldo Otegi\u00a0 from \u00a0Bildu\u00a0 and \u00a0Carles Puigdemont\u00a0 from \u00a0Junts\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Declining to support a motion of censure against S\u00e1nchez, Mu\u00f1oz stated that the Popular Party (PP) does not wish to offer \u201c*an oxygen ball*\u201d to the current administration. Instead, she shifted focus to S\u00e1nchez’s coalition partners, stating, “*He announces that D\u00edaz is even angrier than the day before, but does absolutely nothing.*\u201d This criticism extends to the lack of assurance from D\u00edaz regarding the absence of “irregular financing” within the PSOE.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Mu\u00f1oz emphasized that the responsibility for action lies within the government, particularly with D\u00edaz, who remains part of a corrupt system but does little other than express her frustration. She called this behavior \u201c*completely incomprehensible.*\u201d<\/p>\n

In light of internal party dynamics, \u00a0Aitor Esteban\u00a0, the president of the \u00a0PNV\u00a0, likened the PP to “*Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde*,\u201d due to their contradictory approach to dialogue. In retaliation, Mu\u00f1oz did not acknowledge any insults directed at the PNV and mentioned evolving concerns regarding certain business relationships tied to the alleged corruption in the so-called “*Cerd\u00e1n Case*.\u201d Mu\u00f1oz remarked that journalistic and even judicial reports have suggested possible connections between these corrupt networks and the PNV but emphasized that such issues do not involve the \u00a0Popular Party\u00a0.<\/p>\n

The PP aims to maintain a clear stance: they want all parties to take an unequivocal stand against corruption. Mu\u00f1oz stated that parties must either align themselves against corruption or risk becoming complicit. She expressed that, beneath Esteban\u2019s political maneuvering lies a fear of losing political power within the Basque Country, saying, “*Between losing power and being honest, they will know what they want to do.*\u201d<\/p>\n

Mu\u00f1oz concluded by reiterating her party\u2019s commitment to constitutional governance. In reference to \u00a0Junts\u00a0, she urged them to evaluate whether they want to support a “*liar*” like S\u00e1nchez or associate with those genuinely seeking progress for citizens, including Catalans. This week’s approval of a PP-supported proposition to lower taxes was cited as evidence of cooperation on significant legislative goals.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Mu\u00f1oz affirmed the PP’s position against the \u00a0Amnesty Law\u00a0, pending the \u00a0Court of Justice of the European Union\u2019s\u00a0 ruling, maintaining that the law remains “*illegal and unconstitutional.*\u201d She summarized her and \u00a0Miguel Tellado\u2019s\u00a0 approach within the PP, distancing herself from labels of hardness or moderation. Rather, she characterized their stance as “*clear,*” underscoring the necessity of presenting a realistic alternative to the \u00a0Socialist Party\u00a0 that the Spanish people are anticipating.<\/p>\n
