More than a decade after the exit of Steve Carell<\/b> from The Office<\/i>, Rainn Wilson<\/b> has spoken openly about the turmoil that ensued when they had to proceed without the main protagonist. In a recent appearance on the podcast Good Guys<\/i> hosted by Josh Peck<\/b> and Ben Soffer<\/b>, Wilson, who portrayed the unforgettable Dwight Schrute, revisited the moments of uncertainty that production faced after Carell’s departure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Steve left, it was a bit chaotic to try to define the tone of the program, who would be the protagonist, and how to tell these stories without the comic engine of the series, which is Michael Scott, and without one of the best comic actors in American history<\/b> at the center of the program. It was a huge challenge,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

The series, based on the British comedy created by Ricky Gervais<\/b>, became a cultural phenomenon in the United States thanks in large part to Carell’s charisma and comic talent.<\/p>\n

His portrayal of the clumsy but endearing chief of Dunder Mifflin earned him six consecutive nominations for the Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, although he never won. However, his departure in 2011 did not surprise Wilson or the rest of the cast. As he revealed in the interview, it was already evident that the star of The 40-Year-Old Virgin<\/i> was ready to make the leap to film. “We knew it was going to happen for a long time.<\/b> He was a big movie star at that time,\u201d Wilson stated.<\/p>\n

After leaving The Office<\/i>, Steve Carell<\/b> starred in several box-office successes such as Crazy, Stupid, Love<\/i>, Hope Springs<\/i>, and The Way Way Back<\/i>, and became the voice of the beloved Gru character in the animated franchise Despicable Me<\/i>.<\/p>\n

“I was doing things like Burt Wonderstone<\/i> and those great comedies. I don\u2019t remember all the names at that time, but Get Smart<\/i>? You know? Films that were projected in 2,000 rooms in the multiplexes. So, of course, I would leave <\/b>The Office<\/b><\/i> <\/b>as soon as I could!\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Despite the challenges, the series continued to air for two more seasons after Steve’s exit. It concluded in 2013 with an emotional finale in which Michael Scott made a surprise appearance, closing the narrative with a moment that became one of the most memorable scenes for fans.<\/p>\n

Now, over ten years since its original conclusion, The Office<\/i> is set to return with a spin-off titled The Paper<\/i>, scheduled to premiere in September on Peacock. This new series will also adopt the mockumentary format but will feature entirely new stories and characters set in a different work environment.<\/p>\n

According to the official synopsis, The Paper<\/i> follows a documentary crew that moves away from the beloved Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin in search of a new project. They discover a struggling local newspaper out west and its editor who is determined to restore its former glory.<\/p>\n

So far, it is known that the cast will include Domhnall Gleeson<\/b>, who will portray an idealistic reporter, while Sabrina Impacciatore<\/b> will take on the role of his editor. Additionally, Oscar Nu\u00f1ez<\/b>, the accountant from The Office<\/i>, will return as the local newspaper’s accountant, reacting with surprise and disbelief to the new team in their unfamiliar territory.<\/p>\n
