A woman aged \u00a020\u00a0 was \u00a0bitten\u00a0 while swimming at \u00a0Jones Beach State Park\u00a0 on \u00a0Long Island\u00a0, according to authorities from New York State. The incident took place on Wednesday, June 25, in the afternoon at a location known as \u00a0Central Mall\u00a0, where the young woman was in waist-deep water.<\/p>\n

Although the victim was unable to see the creature that attacked her due to the \u00a0cloudy water\u00a0, specialists from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation concluded, after analyzing \u00a0photographs of the injuries\u00a0, that the attack was “highly likely” caused by a \u00a0Juvenile Sand Tiger Shark\u00a0. This species, known by its characteristic appearance, is not typically aggressive towards humans.<\/p>\n
