These plants are located in \u00a0Penang\u00a0 and \u00a0Kulim\u00a0, two exotic and beautiful cities situated north of \u00a0Kuala Lumpur\u00a0, specializing in the processing of silicon wafers sourced from Intel facilities in \u00a0Israel\u00a0 and \u00a0Ireland\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 3 --><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset article-asset-normal article-asset-center\">\n<div class=\"desvio-container\">\n<div class=\"desvio\">\n<div class=\"desvio-figure js-desvio-figure\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Malaysia is not only a desirable location for \u00a0Intel\u00a0 and other U.S. semiconductor manufacturers; it also attracts chip companies from \u00a0China\u00a0 and \u00a0Taiwan\u00a0. Its appeal lies in four fundamental pillars: it has a \u00a0stable supply chain\u00a0, notable technological development, highly \u00a0qualified personnel\u00a0, and moderate production costs. For integrated circuit manufacturers, a country with these characteristics represents a secure bet.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 4 --><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset-summary article-asset-small article-asset-right\">\n<div class=\"asset-content\">\n<p class=\"sumario_derecha\">Many Chinese manufacturers are diverting their chip packaging to Malaysia to shield themselves from U.S.-China tensions<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Intel has been present in Malaysia since 1972, and over the more than five decades that have passed, its infrastructure in this Asian country has continually expanded. This model has worked so well that other major semiconductor companies have adopted it. One such company is the Chinese giant \u00a0Huatian Technology\u00a0, and numerous other Chinese integrated circuit manufacturers are shifting their chip packaging operations to Malaysia to protect themselves from the uncertainties arising from U.S.-China tensions.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 5 --><\/p>\n<p>The chip industry is one of the driving forces of the Malaysian economy, and as we&#8217;ve seen, the U.S. is an essential player for this nation. For this reason, the Malaysian government is keen to do everything in its power to \u00a0avoid antagonizing the U.S. administration\u00a0. The presumed involvement of some of its companies in the export of cutting-edge chips to China places Malaysia in a delicate position, which has just become even more complicated. A Chinese company is suspected of training AI models using NVIDIA hardware within Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 6 --> <\/p>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"noopener, noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/malaysia-trade-ministry-probing-reports-chinese-firms-use-nvidia-ai-chips-2025-06-18\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a>, the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry of Malaysia is investigating whether this or any other company operating within its territory has violated local laws. Interestingly, this institution is examining a report claiming that four Chinese nationals traveled from \u00a0Beijing\u00a0 to \u00a0Kuala Lumpur\u00a0, each carrying multiple hard drives with dozens of terabytes of spreadsheets and images, intending to train an AI model on 300 servers equipped with NVIDIA chips.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 7 --><\/p>\n<p>Malaysia is not under any sanctions or restrictions from the U.S. government, and it is clear that this Asian nation is interested in maintaining the \u00a0most cordial relationship possible\u00a0 with the Trump administration.
