The recent political scandal involving former \u00a0PSOE\u00a0 general secretary \u00a0Santos Cerd\u00e1n\u00a0, highlighted in a report by the UCO regarding alleged illegal commissions, has sent shockwaves through the Spanish political landscape. \u00a0Eneko Andueza\u00a0, the Secretary General of the PSE-EE, expressed his gratitude to the PNV for their loyalty in light of these developments, describing their commitment as an exercise in responsibility.<\/p>\n

In an interview with \u00a0El Diario Vasco\u00a0, Andueza admitted to feeling “surprise and disappointment” upon learning of Cerd\u00e1n\u2019s involvement in the alleged corrupt activities. “I never imagined something like this,” he stated, emphasizing that the situation has had a significant impact on the party. The \u00a0PSOE\u00a0, he asserted, has shown a commitment to transparency and responsibility, stating that they will not shy away from rectifying any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

When pressed on how \u00a0Pedro S\u00e1nchez\u00a0 could have been unaware of Cerd\u00e1n’s actions, Andueza responded by saying that “not everything can be known” and that trusted teams are essential for any leader. “Sometimes these things happen, but unfortunately, it’s often inevitable,” he noted.<\/p>\n

Despite the scandal, Andueza firmly believes that S\u00e1nchez’s government remains “perfectly sustainable.” He highlighted that alternatives on the political right pose a much greater threat to the stability of the nation. “The best thing that can happen to this country is for this government to finish its term,” he asserted.<\/p>\n

Regarding the hypothetical scenario of S\u00e1nchez’s government lasting until 2027, Andueza emphasized that it is not merely a matter of “endurance,” but rather about fulfilling commitments to the public and upholding signed agreements. He underscored that the president\u2019s duty is to see the current term through to completion.<\/p>\n

Andueza acknowledged that certain circumstances have changed during this legislative term, necessitating a period of reflection and adaptation within the PSOE. He mentioned that they expect to address these changes promptly in the upcoming \u00a0Comit\u00e9 Federal\u00a0 scheduled for early July.<\/p>\n

In relation to the PNV\u2019s support following the Cerd\u00e1n case, Andueza expressed appreciation for Aitor Esteban’s statements that reaffirm their support. “This loyalty, particularly after the Santos Cerd\u00e1n issue, is certainly a responsible action. We are all in this together and must continue working for the good of the community,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Discussing inter-party relations, Andueza noted that tensions between the PSE and PNV often arise from actions or statements issued by the PNV. He asserted that the PSE has never aimed to create conflict but felt compelled to respond when the rules of cooperation are violated. “I often feel unfairly portrayed as the ‘bad guy’ in this narrative,” he lamented.<\/p>\n

While he respects differing opinions within politics, he highlighted that \u201csome individuals have very thin skin when critical comments are made about \u00a0PNV\u00a0 public officials. Yet, they seem unbothered when personal attacks are directed at me.” In his capacity as the Secretary General, he remains committed to defending his party’s values and agreements.<\/p>\n

As discussions surrounding the reform of the \u00a0Estatuto\u00a0 continue, Andueza noted that dialogues are currently “at a standstill.” He stated, “It is high time that we all acknowledge that the right to self-determination must be excluded from these discussions, as it is the crux of our disagreements.” He further insisted that dialogue on the \u00a0Euskara\u00a0 language remains a point of consensus for the PNV and PSE, urging the latter not to follow radical stances of \u00a0EH Bildu\u00a0.<\/p>\n

In light of recent actions by \u00a0Isabel D\u00edaz Ayuso\u00a0, who decided to leave the \u00a0Conference of Presidents\u00a0, Andueza described this as a “provocation.” However, he clarified that it was not an orchestrated attack against the Euskara language or the \u00a0lehendakari\u00a0, but rather a move within the internal dynamics of the \u00a0PP\u00a0 itself. “Isabel D\u00edaz Ayuso is focused on consolidating power within the PP, and that has broad implications for their national strategy,” he concluded.<\/p>\n

As scandals emerge, the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability is put to the test, and the ensuing relationships between various political factions will shape Spain’s future.
