After three years of battling a rare and aggressive bone cancer known as \u00a0chordoma\u00a0, L\u00e9na, a young girl from the small village of \u00a0Ann\u00e9ot\u00a0 in Yonne, passed away on June 3. She was just \u00a010 years old\u00a0. Tributes for her will be held next Tuesday at the town’s equestrian center, as reported by our colleagues at Bien Public<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The journey commenced in \u00a02021\u00a0 when L\u00e9na was only six years old. Complaining of back pain, her parents took her to the doctor, who ordered an \u00a0MRI\u00a0 scan. The diagnosis revealed a tumor located in her spine. Initial medical interventions allowed her to overcome this hurdle.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

However, disillusionment soon followed for L\u00e9na and her family. In \u00a02022\u00a0, a new tumor was detected, this time in her \u00a0brain\u00a0. Subsequently, two more tumors appeared in her chest area. In September last year, her family decided to launch a fundraising campaign to finance a trip to the \u00a0United States\u00a0 for innovative therapy. Nearly \u20ac200,000 was raised<\/a>. Unfortunately, these treatments proved to be ineffective.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

By May \u00a02025\u00a0, doctors, in agreement with L\u00e9na’s family, decided to cease active treatments. Just days before she passed away, she attended an equestrian event in \u00a0Semur-en-Auxois\u00a0. Her mother, \u00a0S\u00e9verine\u00a0, won the race, crossing the finish line in tears. She dedicated this victory to her daughter, providing L\u00e9na with a final joyful memory.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
