Last month, the \u00a0automotive market\u00a0 experienced a significant \u00a0decline\u00a0 with new registrations dropping by \u00a012%\u00a0 compared to May 2024. The French brand \u00a0Renault\u00a0 performed even worse than the overall market, seeing a substantial decline of \u00a015.2%\u00a0, whereas its sister brand \u00a0Dacia\u00a0 saw a rebound in registrations, increasing by \u00a012.4%\u00a0, notably driven by the \u00a0Duster\u00a0 model.<\/p>\n\n

May witnessed no foreign models penetrating the \u00a0top 10\u00a0, as both the \u00a0Yaris\u00a0 and \u00a0Yaris Cross\u00a0 narrowly missed out. Similarly, no electric vehicles made the top ranks, with the \u00a0best-selling electric model\u00a0, the \u00a0Citro\u00ebn \u00eb-C3\u00a0, managing just \u00a01,500 units\u00a0 sold. Here are the ten most registered models in the French market last month.<\/p>\n\n

1. Renault Clio (9,737 Units)<\/h2>\n

Once again, the \u00a0Renault Clio\u00a0 finished the month well ahead of the competition, with \u00a09,737 units\u00a0 registered. This strong performance allows the Clio to extend its lead, accumulating a total of \u00a042,671 units\u00a0 since the start of the year.<\/p>\n\n

2. Peugeot 208 (6,061 Units)<\/h2>\n

Coming in at second place last month, the \u00a0Peugeot 208\u00a0 has consistently remained a top contender throughout the year. However, while it loses some ground to the Clio, it gains slightly against the \u00a0Dacia Sandero\u00a0.<\/p>\n\n

3. Dacia Sandero (5,741 Units)<\/h2>\n

During May, the \u00a0Dacia Sandero\u00a0 nearly matched the Peugeot 208\u2019s performance, falling short by just \u00a0300 units\u00a0. Importantly, it remains the most sold car among private individuals since the beginning of the year and ranks third overall.<\/p>\n\n

4. Peugeot 2008 (4,885 Units)<\/h2>\n

The \u00a0Peugeot 2008\u00a0 continues to outperform the Renault \u00a0Captur\u00a0, recording \u00a04,885 units\u00a0 in registrations. This impressive figure solidifies its position, although the \u00a0Captur\u00a0–\u00a0Symbioz\u00a0 duo together surpasses \u00a05,600 units\u00a0 in the \u00a0B-SUV\u00a0 segment.<\/p>\n\n

5. Dacia Duster (3,279 Units)<\/h2>\n

The \u00a0Dacia Duster\u00a0 maintains its momentum, securing fifth place last month and ranking fifth overall this year. It trails the Peugeot 2008 slightly but leads its segment among private buyers. This exceptional success allows it to outperform its predecessor substantially.<\/p>\n\n

6. Peugeot 3008 (3,229 Units)<\/h2>\n

The \u00a0Peugeot 3008\u00a0 again topped its segment (C-SUV), far ahead of the Renault \u00a0Austral\u00a0, which didn\u2019t even make it to the top 10, registering only \u00a01,360 units\u00a0.<\/p>\n\n

7. Renault Symbioz (2,855 Units)<\/h2>\n

While its success was somewhat unexpected last year, it\u2019s now a norm. The \u00a0Renault Symbioz\u00a0 has once again slightly outsold the \u00a0Captur\u00a0 last month.<\/p>\n\n

8. Renault Captur (2,827 Units)<\/h2>\n

Once more, the \u00a0Renault Captur\u00a0 was edged out by its larger sibling, the \u00a0Symbioz\u00a0, by just a few registrations. However, with the \u00a0Symbioz-Captur\u00a0 combination, Renault decisively leads the \u00a0B-SUV\u00a0 segment.<\/p>\n\n

9. Citro\u00ebn C3 (2,585 Units)<\/h2>\n

\u00a0Citro\u00ebn\u2019s C3\u00a0 struggled against the likes of the \u00a0Peugeot 208\u00a0, \u00a0Renault Clio\u00a0, and \u00a0Dacia Sandero\u00a0. With \u00a02,585 units\u00a0, it barely outperformed its electric variant, which registered only \u00a01,500 units\u00a0. Unlike the 208 and its \u00a0e208\u00a0 version, the C3\u2019s electric counterpart is counted separately.<\/p>\n\n

10. Peugeot 308 (2,439 Units)<\/h2>\n

Closing out the top 10 is the \u00a0Peugeot 308\u00a0, which recorded \u00a02,439 units\u00a0 in registrations for the month.<\/p>\n\nThe French automobile market is currently experiencing a \u00a0transitional phase\u00a0 marked by significant shifts in consumer preferences and brand performances. While traditional brands like Renault and Peugeot continue to dominate, emerging segments such as SUVs are witnessing an upward trajectory.
