A recent update revealed that only \u00a0one of the 51 men\u00a0 convicted during the trial will be appealing his sentence. As of June 3, a judicial source indicated that the remaining sixteen who had initially filed for appeal have since withdrawn their requests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph\">Husamettin D., a 44-year-old sentenced to \u00a0nine years in prison\u00a0 in December, will appear alone this fall before the N\u00eemes Court of Assizes. He intends to contest the \u00a0duration\u00a0 of his sentence, not his culpability. This was confirmed by a source speaking to AFP under the condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph\">Dominique Pelicot, the ringleader of this decade-long \u00a0rape ordeal\u00a0 involving Gis\u00e8le Pelicot, had been handed a maximum sentence of \u00a0twenty years\u00a0 with a two-thirds safety measure. Husamettin D. retains the right to withdraw until the trial starts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph\">Most of Dominique Pelicot\u2019s fifty co-defendants, aged between \u00a027 and 74\u00a0, were deemed guilty of raping Gis\u00e8le Pelicot. Their sentences varied from \u00a0three years with two years suspended\u00a0 for one man\u2014an elderly retired individual judged only for sexual assault\u2014to \u00a0fifteen years\u00a0 for another individual who assaulted Mrs. Pelicot six times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph\">First on the stand was Husamettin D., who \u00a0denied\u00a0 the allegations against him during his single appearance in Avignon on September 25.
