It was \u00a0three o’clock in the morning\u00a0 when Myl\u00e8ne Beretti received the devastating news that flames were engulfing part of her boats in the \u00a0port of Calvi\u00a0. \u201cIt was a neighboring boat owner who managed to save one,\u201d recounts the owner of \u00a0Giru Mare\u00a0, a tour boat company. Like her, the owners of two other similar businesses were also targeted by \u00a0fires\u00a0 that occurred during the night of June 2nd to June 3rd. \u201cToday, there is nothing but \u00a0confusion\u00a0… But the sector of boaters is on edge on the island, we know it attracts greed,\u201d she laments. Recently, fires have ravaged boats in \u00a0Saint-Florent\u00a0 and \u00a0Ajaccio\u00a0. \u201cWe weren\u2019t as relaxed as previous seasons,\u201d admits Myl\u00e8ne Beretti. \u201cBut we never imagined something like this would happen. We are not thugs; we are young people from here. This was our fourth season in harmony with the other boaters.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“The Season Looks Complicated, We\u2019re Already Battling with Insurance Companies”<\/h2>\n

Every year, from \u00a0April to October\u00a0, twelve people can board each of the two semi-rigid boats of \u00a0Giru Mare\u00a0 for tours to the \u00a0Scandola\u00a0, \u00a0Piana\u00a0, \u00a0Girolata\u00a0, or the \u00a0D\u00e9sert des Agriates\u00a0. In the peak season, six trips are made a day. \u201cThe season looks complicated,\u201d sighs Myl\u00e8ne Beretti. \u201cOne of the boats was brand new. This fire endangers the financial health of the company. We still don\u2019t know how we\u2019ll manage with our employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This summer, in addition to Myl\u00e8ne, two other captains and a hostess were supposed to work during the season. \u201cWe will do everything we can to keep them,\u201d she assures. \u201cWe are already battling with insurance companies to see what solutions are available. Luckily, we have a third boat that was not at the port that night, and one of the damaged boats may be repairable fairly quickly after the expert assesses it. But for the last one, the damage is more severe…\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As a dedicated activist, Myl\u00e8ne Beretti has received support from the \u00a0Core in Fronte\u00a0 movement. \u201cMyl\u00e8ne is a hardworking person, recognized and appreciated in \u00a0Calvi\u00a0 and \u00a0Balagna\u00a0,\u201d they stated in a social media post before denouncing: \u201cIn February 2025, Core In Fronte indicated at the \u00a0Corsican Assembly\u00a0 that the leisure boating sector had been under pressure for several years. The incidents with boats and the related violence sadly testify to this. Today, some wish to turn Corsica into a territory where the law of the strongest prevails, characterized by delinquent behavior, monopolies, the tyranny of money, and greed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
