Among those affected is \u00a0Andy R.\u00a0, who lost \u00a05,000 euros\u00a0 purchasing Pok\u00e9mon products from a seller who went by the name &#8220;Ma\u00eetre Red&#8221;. This scam not only impacted Andy but also a growing number of other victims who were unaware of the impending fraud.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"Image_image__BFfVu\">\n<div class=\"TwicCore_img__i9TC1 TwicCore_drop-filter__3AuSM\">\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"my-2\">The stone sent instead of a Pok\u00e9mon product. <span class=\"uppercase bold\">PHOTO DR<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"body-text\">\n<h2>The Modus Operandi of the Con Artist<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;Initially, I was his vendor,&#8221; explains Andy R. to \u00a0La Provence\u00a0. &#8220;I sent him items worth thousands of euros that he never paid for. We&#8217;re talking about \u00a05,000 euros\u00a0 transferred in September 2024,&#8221; continues the unfortunate collector, who has managed to recover 1,500 euros so far. &#8220;For the rest, I think I\u2019m out of luck. He doesn&#8217;t intend to reimburse anyone,&#8221; laments Andy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"body-text\">\n<p>Andy R., with more than \u00a010,800 followers\u00a0 on Whatnot and over \u00a02,000 successful sales\u00a0, seemed to inspire confidence. &#8220;He participated in public events and was seen alongside well-known figures like \u00a0David Lafarge\u00a0, a YouTuber with over two million subscribers. Everything seemed legitimate,&#8221; adds Andy.<\/p>\n<p>Detecting the scam, another user took to \u00a0Instagram\u00a0, creating a group that gathered victims of the fraudster, who referred to himself as &#8220;Pokelovee.&#8221; This private conversation group now counts \u00a061 members\u00a0, with a total estimated damage of \u00a0100,000 euros\u00a0.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"Image_image__BFfVu\">\n<div class=\"TwicCore_img__i9TC1 TwicCore_drop-filter__3AuSM\">\n<img alt=\"Le profil de l\u2019escroc sur Whatnot avant d\u2019\u00eatre banni.\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"fill\" class=\"TwicCore_img__i9TC1 undefined undefined\" src=\"\/path_to_image2.jpg\"\/>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"my-2\">The profile of the fraudster on Whatnot before being banned. <span class=\"uppercase bold\">CAPTURE ECRAN WHATNOT &#8211; DR<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"body-text\">\n<p>Thirty complaints, including some from Belgium and the Paris region, have been filed for what are popularly called \u00a0&#8220;sentiment frauds.&#8221;\u00a0 Andy\u2019s complaint, which he wishes to remain anonymous, was submitted on May 22. In the complaint, which we have accessed, it states, &#8220;On the Internet, I was deceived by the use of fake documents and the employment of fraudulent maneuvers, particularly through the attached documents.
