In France, however, \u00a0systematic screening for postpartum depression\u00a0 is not organized, unlike in countries such as the UK and Australia.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn 2022, the \u00a0Haute Autorit\u00e9 de sant\u00e9\u00a0 (HAS) issued recommendations calling for better recognition of \u00a0psychological distress\u00a0 signs. Yet, in practice, very few consultations integrate a \u00a0mental health assessment\u00a0 due to a lack of training among professionals, insufficient time, or the absence of clear protocols. Consequently, many disorders go unnoticed or are dismissed as mere \u00a0temporary baby blues\u00a0.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNonetheless, the \u00a0symptoms\u00a0 can be severe: dark thoughts, panic attacks, emotional withdrawal from the baby, sleep disturbances, or appetite issues. This social, familial, and sometimes medical pressure \u00a0discourages\u00a0 them from expressing their distress. Admitting that one is not well after bringing a child into the world remains a taboo. \u00a0Shame, fear of judgment\u00a0, or being labeled a \u201cbad mother\u201d can hinder the request for help.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe sooner a disorder is addressed, the more effective the treatment becomes. Short-term psychotherapy, sometimes combined with appropriate \u00a0medication\u00a0, can lead to a rapid and sustainable recovery. However, it is essential that women are \u00a0identified, listened to, and directed\u00a0 towards the right support.\n<\/p>\n<h2>Un appel \u00e0 <span>transformer le syst\u00e8me<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\nCalls are being made for \u00a0perinatal mental health\u00a0 to become a priority in maternity care. This requires:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The establishment of systematic postpartum consultations including a mental health assessment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Enhanced training for midwives, family physicians, and pediatricians in detecting disorders.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The development of dedicated facilities<\/strong>, such as \u00a01000 Days Houses\u00a0 or \u00a0mother-baby hospital units\u00a0.<\/li>\n<li>And above all, a <strong>sociatal change in perspective<\/strong> that allows for acknowledging that motherhood can also be a struggle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Une souffrance encore <span>trop invisible<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\nGiving birth does not necessarily mean being reborn. For many women, \u00a0motherhood is not immediately synonymous with happiness\u00a0, and this reality must be recognized. Ignoring the mental health of new mothers allows an \u00a0avoidable distress\u00a0 to set in, imposing a significant human and social toll.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAwareness is growing, yet \u00a0resources still lag behind\u00a0. As long as women continue to suffer in silence after giving life, the concept of a truly \u00a0holistic approach to childbirth\u00a0 remains unattainable.
