On 19 September, 1,800 teachers will be taken out of phase seven of the strike. In total, more than 8,000 teachers are on strike. Now more and more of the youngest pupils all the way down to 2nd grade are affected by the strike. Among other things in Bergen, the strike affects both parents and children in a completely new way. On Monday morning, second-grader Anna Woldseth was on her way to the gates of Nordnes school. Not to go to school, but to be on the so-called “supervision scheme” that the school has established. – I think it will be hobby stuff like that. I don’t think it will be a normal school with homework, says Anna Woldseth. – That’s okay, she adds. Second-grader Anna Woldseth on her way into the gates of Nordnes school to participate in the supervision scheme on Monday morning. – The arrangement is very good for us who have things to do during the day, says father Stig Woldseth. Photo: Sigurd Hamre / news It will be like a long after-school program – The supervision system will be like a long day at after-school program in a way, says principal Sissel Karin Magnussen at Nordnes school. Supervision is carried out by skilled workers and after-school staff, not teachers. In other words, it will be a completely new school day for many of the little ones. At Nordnes School, 2nd grade can be supervised three days a week, while 3rd grade can be supervised two days a week. 1st grade is not affected by the strike, nor is the reinforced department at the school. Father of small children Geir Luedy in Bergen is one of those who today delivers his second grader to supervision. – It is the teachers’ right to strike and the children’s right to go to school that stand against each other here. Then I think that the children’s rights should be much stronger, says Luedy to news måndag morgon. What do you think is most important? The right to go to school ?‍? The right to strike ?‍? Show result Left the meeting on Sunday The negotiations between the parties in the strike seem to be completely deadlocked. The Education Confederation got up from the negotiating table after two hours, when they felt that KS would not budge. – KS has found a position where they do not want to do anything. They sit quietly and watch the strike affect Norwegian children and students while they wait for the government to intervene, says Steffen Handal, leader of the Education Association, on Politisk kvarter måndag morgon. Neither the Education Association, the Norwegian Association of Lecturers nor the National Association of Schools have been summoned to a meeting with the Ombudsman today, reports NTB. KS and the three trade unions visited the Ombudsman yesterday. Steffen Handal hires 8,199 striking teachers in the Education Association. In addition, there is the National Association of Schools with 72 striking members and the Norwegian Teachers’ Association, which has taken out 60 teachers on strike. The figure is taken from KS’s overview. Photo: Charlotte Haarvik Sanden / news These are the people who disagree about whether Laurdag went public with the proposal they had submitted to KS. It is very unusual for a party in a strike to do that. In practice, the proposal was about prioritizing the teachers in 2023: The Education Association will accept the overall salary framework for the settlement. Supplement for the highly educated and those with the longest seniority from 1 June this year, not from 1 May as other groups in the municipal settlement have received. That saves the municipalities a bit, argues the association. And: They want a “school supplement” for all teachers from 1 May next year of NOK 10,300. – We felt we were faced with a choice between publishing our negotiation offers to create movement, or sitting still with an employer who steers towards a forced wage board, says Handal. – It is very frustrating to have an opponent who takes that attitude, he says. The national association of schools owes KS and Uddanningsforbundet for running an unclean trot, and say they found out about KS’s offer on Wednesday in the media. In the same way, they also found out about the Education Association’s offer in the media, claims leader Mette Johnsen Walker. – This means that I sit on the sofa at home and watch TV, listen to the radio and read newspapers and learn that negotiations are taking place in a conflict with me and I am a party to it, says Walker. They will instead negotiate a solution, but say they have not come as far as the Education Association. – We entered the process so late that we need time to make our clarifications. We have only just begun, says Walker. Striking teachers in Bærumshallen on Tuesday 6 September.
