Commissioned by Prime Minister \u00a0Fran\u00e7ois Bayrou\u00a0, Moutchou&#8217;s findings indicate that the possession of bladed weapons by minors has become a \u00a0prevalent issue\u00a0 across France.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"ac-article-quote wall-content\">\n<p>There is indeed a trend among the youth towards armed \u00a0violence\u00a0.<\/p>\n<footer><strong>Na\u00efma Moutchou<\/strong>, Member of Parliament<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report, submitted on May 28, 2025, reveals that the presence of knives among students is now a \u00a0disturbing reality\u00a0. Moutchou stated, \u201cWe cannot accept that schoolchildren have knives in their backpacks or pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wall-content\">3,000 Youths Arrested Annually<\/h2>\n<p>Since 2016, around \u00a020%\u00a0 of those apprehended carrying a weapon are minors, amounting to approximately \u00a03,000 young people\u00a0 every year. Moutchou elaborated during her appearance on \u00a0RMC-BMFTV\u00a0, emphasizing that \u201ctoday, any area is affected.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"dailymotion-embed-x7dyep\" class=\"ac-embed ac-embed--dailymotion ac-embed--inread3\" data-provider=\"dailymotion\"><figcaption>Videos: Currently on Actu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Importantly, there is \u00a0no single profile\u00a0 among these youths. Moutchou noted that some carry knives for self-defense against harassment, while others are involved in gang-related altercations or suffer from psychological vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wall-content\">Zombie Knives are Making Their Way to France<\/h2>\n<p>Among the types of knives gaining traction are \u201c\u00a0zombie knives\u00a0.\u201d Moutchou brought attention to these particular weapons, showcasing a photo, and described them as having blades on both sides, stating, \u201cThis is not designed for spreading butter.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"ac-article-quote wall-content\">\n<p>You can find them online for around \u00a020 euros\u00a0.<\/p>\n<footer><strong>Na\u00efma Moutchou<\/strong><\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She emphasized, \u201cThis is a weapon intended to kill, to harm, to intimidate\u2014nothing else.\u201d Citing a concerning trend in the \u00a0United Kingdom\u00a0, she expressed fears that this phenomenon could escalate within France, stating, \u201cWe certainly don\u2019t want this to take hold.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wall-content\">Should They be Banned?<\/h2>\n<p>In her report, Moutchou proposed classifying these knives as \u00a0Category A weapons\u00a0, rendering them illegal for sale and possession by both minors and adults. She highlighted the \u00a0ease of access\u00a0 to such weapons, noting, \u201cIn 24 to 48 hours, they can be delivered to your home.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wall-content\">Additional Recommendations to Tackle Bladed Weapons<\/h2>\n<p>Alongside her primary recommendations, Moutchou advised implementing \u00a0mandatory video surveillance\u00a0 at school entrances and within school grounds. \u201cThis is one of the measures we advocate for,\u201d she explained. \u201cI believe in the effectiveness of video surveillance; it serves as an additional tool, although it won\u2019t provide complete protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"ac-article-quote wall-content\">\n<p>We must not shy away from any means. The situation is too serious. If it can help detect threats and enable quick intervention, we should embrace it.<\/p>\n<footer><strong>Na\u00efma Moutchou<\/strong>, Member of Parliament<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Moreover, she emphasized the significance of organizing \u00a0awareness meetings\u00a0 and campaigns with both parents and students.
