A local enterprise that began nearly three decades ago is on the verge of expanding into a new business venture, with plans to construct their world headquarters in the heart of Detroit.<\/p>\n
In an exclusive interview, I spoke with the founder of Detroit Life Sciences<\/strong>. This innovative venture aims to introduce a global supply chain business that promises to create jobs, provide housing, and establish a vibrant ecosystem in the Motor City.<\/p>\n Watch the video report below:<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Global health care company bringing new headquarters to Detroit<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Stephen Shaya, a physician by profession, is the driving force behind this transformative initiative. Shaya is carrying on the legacy of his late father, who co-founded J & B Medical<\/strong> 28 years ago. Together with his wife, they built a company that has been dedicated to health care.<\/p>\n During our tour of their expansive warehouse in Wixom, Shaya shared his father’s timeless wisdom: \u201cThe best way to give back is to provide jobs and opportunities to people.\u201d This philosophy serves as the backbone of Shaya\u2019s new venture.<\/p>\n Detroit Life Sciences, branded as Shamekh IV<\/strong>, was conceived during a pivotal moment in recent history\u2014the COVID-19 pandemic. \u201cThe pandemic exposed significant vulnerabilities in the global medical supply chain,\u201d Shaya remarked. \u201cHealth care products became a matter of political contention.\u201d<\/p>\n With his sights set on improving the health care landscape, Shaya envisions Detroit BioSciences<\/strong> producing essential products like IV fluids, generic drugs, and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Alarmingly, over 80% of these critical ingredients are currently sourced from China.<\/p>\n As a Chaldean Iraqi Christian, Shaya chose to launch his organization initially in Saudi Arabia in 2023. \u201cAmong 250 companies that submitted projects to the White House, worth a staggering $930 billion, our initiative was one of the few that received attention,\u201d he reflected.<\/p>\n When queried about the importance of establishing such a facility in Detroit, Shaya noted, \u201cI was born and raised here. I attended Wayne State for both my undergraduate studies and medical school.\u201d He acknowledged that the disruptions in supply chains during the pandemic were a wake-up call for us to recognize our interconnectedness and responsibilities towards one another.<\/p>\n Through partnerships with educational institutions like Wayne State, Michigan State, and the University of Michigan, Detroit Bio-Sciences<\/strong> plans to leverage artificial intelligence in its operations. \u201cAI will play a crucial role in expediting our development processes. Tasks that traditionally took years can now be completed in a fraction of that time,\u201d Shaya explained.<\/p>\n Shaya is currently receiving mentorship from notable figures like Dan Gilbert<\/strong>, with an aim to secure one of two locations for a massive facility planned for 2026. This upcoming establishment will span 150,000 square feet, encompassing three stories and representing an investment of $500 million. With the establishment of this facility, around 500 new jobs will be created in the city.<\/p>\n \u201cOur vision extends beyond merely creating a facility. We are committed to constructing an entire ecosystem that includes living spaces for the workforce,\u201d added Shaya.<\/p>\n While Detroit has traditionally been recognized as an automotive hub, Shaya envisions a future where the city becomes a beacon of health care innovation. \u201cWhen you provide individuals with health, you offer them hope.
