Collective market-cap weighted ROI for these assets reached a noteworthy **61.81%**. However, this figure was influenced significantly by **Popcat**, the highest market-cap coin in this category. Excluding Popcat from the calculations presented an even more striking ROI of **89.34%**. This suggests that the larger-cap cat coins are driving overall success, overshadowing smaller tokens that might not perform as effectively.

Conversely, dog-themed coins displayed varied performances within the same timeframe, showing a market-cap weighted ROI of **-34.34%**. Surprisingly, even when the dominant player, **Dogecoin**, is excluded from these figures, the negative ROI only slightly improves to **-32.73%**. Unlike their feline counterparts, dog coins did not gain as much from concentrated growth among larger cap coins, suggesting a distribution of gains across both larger and smaller tokens.

Lifespans and Survival Rates: Battle Ends in a Draw

As of May 10, **cat-themed meme coins** show a survival rate of only **20%**, meaning 80% of these tokens have sunk significantly in value, dropping more than 90% from their **all-time highs**. In comparison, **dog-themed coins** have a slightly higher survival rate with **22% remaining active**. This highlights a precarious environment for both types of meme coins, where a startlingly high failure rate prevails.

When looking at the average longevity, dog coins lasted an average of **152 days** before experiencing their steep price drops, significantly longer than the **113 days** average lifespan for cat coins. However, it’s essential to note that dog meme coins came onto the market earlier, affecting the overall average lifespan. When focusing solely on tokens launched after November 2023, the figures become strikingly more balanced, with cat coins averaging **98 days** compared to **92 days** for dog coins.

Dogs Stick Together, Cats Less So

The **price correlation** among dog-themed coins reflects a pattern of collective movement. The prominent Dogecoin had a near-perfect correlation of **0.90** with **Shiba Inu**, indicating that developments in one often affect the other. Other dog coins like **Bonk** and **Floki** exhibited similar close correlations, demonstrating that they often rise and fall in tandem. However, cats appear more isolated in their movements. The leading cat coin, Popcat, showed a robust correlation of **0.84** with **Mog Coin**, but it diverged from its fellow cat coins significantly, highlighting a more erratic behavior overall.

Popcat vs Dogecoin Price: Volatility With Different Results

In examining the monthly performance of Popcat and Dogecoin, stark contrasts in behavior become evident. **Popcat** faced pronounced declines during the first quarter of the year, illustrating not just volatility but also a lack of recovery momentum. On the flip side, **Dogecoin** displayed a somewhat more stable fluctuation pattern, even though it too experienced dips of **37% in February** and **17.7% in March**. Unlike Popcat, Dogecoin did not rebound as dramatically during this period.

What Happened After Q1 2025

Fast forward to early May, and the environment shifted. Both cat and dog coins escalated in momentum, with their leading assets firmly landing in the top five for ROI. **Cat coins** stormed ahead with a market-cap weighted ROI of **55.7%** (or **59.6%** when excluding Popcat), demonstrating their robust recovery. Meanwhile, dog coins saw a comparable rebound with a weighted ROI of **39.9%** (and **30.9%** without Dogecoin) — indicative of a resurgence among the larger cap meme coins as traders started to circle back to established names.

How We Did the Research

To conduct this analysis, we meticulously reviewed historical **price** and **market cap** data from CoinGecko, evaluating **508 dog coins** and **388 cat coins** up until May 10, 2025. We employed a market-cap weighted ROI calculation for both groups, providing a fair representation of their overall performance as larger coins had a more significant influence on the aggregated results.

Furthermore, a **correlation analysis** assessed the daily price changes among the leading six coins by market cap. Utilizing the Pearson method allowed us to examine the extent to which these coins track one another’s market behaviors, providing deeper insights into the dynamics that govern cat and dog meme coins.

Finance and Crypto News-10

Cats Outperform Dogs in Early 2025 Returns Return on investment (ROI) metrics from January 1 to May 10 reveal that **cat-themed coins** achieved impressive results.
