We have been encouraged to buy an electric car, and suddenly it has become expensive, says Anette Eie. She has parked her electric car at the charging station in front of the Kvadrat shopping center in Sandnes, and uses the More Norge app to charge the car. Anette Eie thinks it is unfair that she has to pay twice as much as the Swedes per kilowatt hour. Photo: Elise Pedersen \/ news When she learns that she has to pay up to twice as much for charging as the Swedes, she reacts: – It’s very unfair. Norwegians have to fork out NOK 4 more If you have downloaded both the More Norway and More Sweden apps, it is easy to check the prices for normal and fast charging. For example, the price for fast charging outside Extra in \u00c5lg\u00e5rd is NOK 5.5 per kilowatt hour if you use the Swedish app. In the Norwegian app, you have to pay NOK 7.99 per kilowatt hour. So a difference of NOK 2.5 per kilowatt hour. The image shows the price for normal charging in both apps. The screenshot on the left is taken from the Swedish Mer app, and the screenshot on the right is taken from the Norwegian one. Photo: Screenshot The price difference is even higher if it is to be charged in the standard way. In the Norwegian app, the price for this type of charging is NOK 6.99 per kilowatt hour, and in the Swedish app the price is NOK 3. Norwegians therefore have to pay NOK 3.99 more per kilowatt hour than Swedes for standard charging. The charging station company Mer is owned by Statkraft, which is wholly owned by the Norwegian state. More is a major charging player in the Nordics. Swedish app closed for Norwegian cards If you now think that it will be cheaper to charge the car in Sweden, you are wrong. You pay Norwegian prices in both Norway and Sweden, while Swedes pay Swedish prices in both countries. – It should be the case that you pay the price set in that country, notes Anette Eie, and receives support from Lars Henrik Jensen. – I think the Swedes should pay Norwegian prices in Norway and that we Norwegians pay Swedish prices in Sweden, he says. Jensen has his own YouTube channel where he calls himself “ElbilLars”. He downloaded the Swedish app from Mer and charged at Swedish prices in Norway. The possibility of doing so with a Norwegian bank card is now blocked. Anette Eie thinks it has become expensive to use an electric car. She charges with the Mer app. Photo: Elise Pedersen \/ news Admits that the differences are not optimal From 1 September, Mer Norge increased the price in the public charging network. According to Mer, the price increase comes as an effect of increased electricity prices, the charging company writes in a message to its customers. The company is aware of the price differences in the various apps. – As of today, the Mer companies in Norway and Sweden have different banking systems and different apps. Active work is being done to develop a common platform and app that will make the charging experience seamless at all Mer charging stations across national borders, writes Mer’s communications manager, Monique Berntsen, in an email to news. The charging company Mer is aware of the price differences, and says it is working on developing a joint app for Norwegian and Swedish customers. Photo: Elise Pedersen \/ news She emphasizes that in the meantime it is important for Mer to make arrangements so that Norwegian customers traveling in Sweden can easily charge with a Norwegian app, and the same for Swedes traveling in Norway. – In anticipation of a new joint app, we have therefore arranged for a simple but temporary solution, where customers pay “the same price as at home”. Berntsen admits that the differences are not optimal. – Due to particularly high electricity prices and therefore rapid changes in charging prices in the Norwegian market, this has turned out to be unfortunate. Some Norwegian customers have chosen to download the Swedish app to get Swedish prices. We have now set restrictions on this. Pending a new app, Norwegian customers like Anette Eie still have to pay more than Swedish customers to charge the car.
