Police reported on Sunday morning that there has been a snow avalanche in Oldervika in the municipality of Troms\u00f8. At 08:23, police in the police logen write that the local fire department and helicopter are on the scene, and that there is a southern landslide that has gone from the top and all the way down the shoreline across the road. No buildings have been taken, but the road is closed on site as a result of the landslide. – It is a landslide that has gone over the road. There is some snow masses, so the road will be closed until contractors can remove these, says operations manager in Troms police district Henrik Melsb\u00f8. The contractor is on his way to the site to start work. The police cannot estimate how long it will take before the road is open again. – There are some cabin residents and a resident who are affected by the closed road, says Melsb\u00f8. Considering evacuation The road is the only way in and out of the area, and buildings on the north side of the landslide are therefore insulated. – We do not yet know how many are affected, says Melsb\u00f8. Just over nine o’clock, police say they have several resources on their way to the site to exclude that people may have been in the area when the landslide went. Melsb\u00f8 states that they have no indications that anyone may be taken, but that they will go through the landslides. – Those who have cabins and live in the area are explained, so it is just to be on the safe side, he says. – Are you considering evacuating people from the area? – There are assessments we take continuously. Now we do not know that there will be a great avalanche danger in the area in general, so there is something we have to come back to. Photo: Regobs.no Moderate landslide danger The snow avalanche in Troms\u00f8 is Sunday at level 2, which means moderate snow avalanche danger. – It is expected that both wet loose snow avalanches, wet flakes and some slides will be able to loosen by themselves. Wet loose snow avalanches will probably be the most widespread problem, but these will generally be less in size. Wet flakes and slides, on the other hand, are less likely, but these landslides will typically be larger and more destructive, writes Varsom.no.
