Managers of the Popular Liberation Front of General Palestine-Commandment (FPLP-CG) said that the Syrian authorities arrested Talal Naji, the secretary general of this movement,, <\/em>Saturday in Damascus.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n An official of this movement based in Damascus, having requested anonymity, told the France-Presse (AFP) agency that “The secretary general Talal Naji has<\/em>[vait] been arrested “<\/em> in the capital. A second manager confirmed the arrest, while a third source in the faction said that Mr. Naji \u201cHad been summoned by a security service and did not return. He was most likely arrested. \u00bb\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n The FPLP-CG was founded in 1968 after a split of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. When the Syrian conflict broke out in 2011, the FPLP-CG fell on the side of the power of Al-Assad. For years, under the Al-Assad dynasty, Syria has hosted Palestinian factions and was part of “The resistance axis”<\/em> to Israel, led by Tehran, then a major ally of Damascus.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n This arrest occurs a few weeks after the armed branch of another Palestinian group, the Islamic jihad, had said that the new Syrian authorities had arrested two of its officials, without specifying the charges chosen against them.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n The United States, which consider several Palestinian factions, including FPLP-CG and Islamic Jihad, such as organizations “Terrorists”<\/em>said that they would not raise the sanctions imposed under al-Assad as long as no progress is made on issues deemed priority, in particular the fight against “Terrorism”<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
