These adults must be good for the children to feel good. It should be obvious, but it is not always. Because there can be so many reasons why the adults are hurting. In the new picture book for Brynjulf \u200b\u200bJung Tj\u00f8nn and the illustrator ham tape, Dad is suddenly quiet. The EG storyteller is a little girl of seven to eight years. One day she and dad are in the woods, the father gets a phone. After that he is so weird. It’s as if he is shrinking. And his new appearance lasts. Radar pairs: They are best friends, her little girl and her father. What has happened? “Dad has got so much to think about,” says her mother. But why can’t he tell the daughter what it is? And why would he not train her football team anymore? How has it become of the safe and fun dad she knows? Who am I? We do not know exactly what is the father, we do not know. Towards the end of the book, however, he tells that the phone was from the country where he was born, from someone who knew his family. The father came from the future country as a kid. Now he has to go there to find out more. There are not so many children’s books to be adopted in Norway. In this way, this is a good addition to the diversity of Norwegian children’s literature. For it is natural to think that Brynjulf \u200b\u200bJung Tj\u00f8nn succeeds in writing about the feelings one can have as adopted in Norway. He has done this between others in the collections of poems “Kvit, Norwegian man” and “Norwegian love”. GOOD COOPERATION: Brynjulf \u200b\u200bJung Tj\u00f8nn has written a number of books for children and adults and has among others won the Brage Prize, the Critic Prize and the Youth Criticism Award. The fact that we do not get a specific answer makes the text open to interpretations. That’s good. On the hi side, the lack of answers can fog the story and make it more nasty than she needs to be. What kind of caregivers the father has had in this country, says text either. Valuable project What is clear is that the author has serious topic on the heart. As an adult reader, I appreciate the good intention of hand -striking difficult feelings. I am more uncertain to what extent the story will catch young readers. I think she depends on an adult who reads, and who can take the conversation and theme from the book further. At the publisher, the book is presented as a picture book for children from 3 to 6 years. I think she can be just as striking for those who are a little older. Seeking safety in the forest: The girl turns to the forest when she is upset. But must it always rain when someone is sad? Dark marsh: that dark marsh fills the chest and head, is a concrete and sensual picture that raises well to the forest theme. Through specific scenes, Brynjulf \u200b\u200bJung Tj\u00f8nn shows how grief and fear sat in the body of the girl. She knows it as it was raining inside, or as if dark marsh fills the chest and head. It is well seen. The girl loves the forest and turns to nature and weather in the depiction of her feelings. Maybe a little too obvious that rain symbolizes grief, but let go! With the joy, leaves sprout in the stomach and granks the rags on her back. Yes, the symbol use has been completed. Hypnotic power is also the almost hypnotizing illustrations of ham tape. In large color surfaces, she alternates between the daily and the more disturbing. We are both in the forest, home and on the football field. For me, it is in particular the expressive eye of the girl and the father who brought my eyes. Natural representation: On the football field, everyone is equal. It is also a value that comes naturally from the book. PHOTO: The Samlaget Illustrator has a slightly naive style, where realism is challenged by shifts in size, proportions and perspectives. She also uses wood as a disciplinary element in the story. The grip of drawing a fan of children’s picture, such as from a photo album, is particularly illustrating to show the band between the girl and her parents. At the bottom of the page is an empty photograph: Here the readers can draw their own conclusions. I like the variation in colors and shapes from the angular and cool kitchen at home, to the dreamy parent bed where the girl can always fit. The life -giving, wild leaves around the bed are passed on to the very last picture in the book. There, the girl assures the father that he does not need to be alone with his thoughts. It is also a book that makes children notice that parents have also been our children once, and that they too can bear feelings such as loneliness or grief.
