And I had to confirm that I considered being elected leader of LO, Alfheim tells news. Next week, a new leader will be elected in the national organization in Norway, LO. Until recently, Jørn Eggum was the favorite to become a new LO leader, but he retired earlier this week. Thus, everything is clear that Alfheim can fight for the position of LO leader. If he gets the top job, he will represent a million employees in Norway’s largest workers’ organization. – It is an insanely good position to be able to get, if you are chosen. You will have the opportunity to help influence Norwegian working life and Norwegian politics in a very good way in that position. Alfheim now leads the trade union strength. Photo: Anders Eidesvik / news – Hope many will look at me as a unifying leader – what can you add to LO? – I think I’m a good organizer. I have long experience from LO and the union I am part of now. I have and worked with politics, says Alfheim to news. He says that he has been involved in the merger of several unions, and that he has worked with negotiations. – So I have a pretty broad background. And I hope many will look at me as a unifying leader for the whole LO family. Can he become a new LO leader? Frode Alfheim poses as a candidate. Photo: Simon Elias Bogen / news responds to criticism Several in the Fellesforbundet doubts that favorite Frode Alfheim has long enough experience from the “floor” to be a good LO leader. – Some people think you have too little experience from the “floor”. What do you think about it? – I see it. Also, I think I’ve been working on behalf of people on “Gølvet” in LO for a good number of years. And in the trade union from 2003 until now. And everything you work with in a trade union, from organizational work to negotiations. – So I think I actually have and some things that I’m pretty good at, and that I can add, even though I don’t exactly have that experience “from the floor”. Why is LO important? What is LO? LO is an abbreviation for the national organization. It is an employee organization. This means that there is a place that people who work can organize together to stand stronger to employers. Where many members have LO? LO themselves state that they have over a million members. The members are divided into 23 unions, depending on what they are working on. The clearest union is by far the union. It has members who work with health and many tasks within the municipalities. What does LO do? The most important thing is that they negotiate wages on behalf of those who work. Either the entire LO or the various unions individually.LO also fights for workers’ rights in a number of areas. Among the most well -known areas are sick pay, working hours and the right to permanent work. Is it only LO that represents the workers? No. There are several others. The largest are Unio, YS and the Academics. They have around 850,000 members combined. Since LO is the largest, it is often those who are most heard. It is also LO who negotiates what is called the front subjects. The result there is most often what others also get in wage increases. Is important in politics? LO has over 100 years stood close to the Labor Party (Ap). The leader of LO always sits on Aps powerful central board. The leader also leads to chair the nomination committee when the AP is to choose new leaders. LO also gives many millions of NOK to Ap, especially in elections. This year, the LO management has proposed to provide NOK 20 million in support to Aps election campaign. Open leadership issues Recently, it became known that Jørn Eggum withdrew from standing to the leadership election. On Friday, it became clear that the union strength proposes Frode Alfheim as new LO leader. – With Alfheim will get a leader who is skilled at gathering the team, who has solid negotiating characteristics and who has great political capacity, strength writes in a press release. The leader of LO’s nomination committee and chair of the Trade Union, Mette Nord, confirms that she has received the leadership proposal for the trade union strength, and that Frode Alfheim is leaving the nomination committee, writes NTB. Photo: Carina Johansen / NTB leadership issues After Eggum withdrew until this week, Eggum has been a big favorite to become a new LO leader. But it wasn’t. Eggum has said that he should inform the board of the Fellesforbundet about his relationship with a union representative when a final agreement was negotiated for her, and that he should have reported incompetent during the process. – LO’s leadership for the next four years will be without me, Eggum wrote on Facebook earlier this week. – As you know, I have acted unwise. I do not want my mistakes to overshadow the important work to be done by the LO congress next week, he writes. Alfheim to news:-I am a fairly ordinary Norwegian man earlier this week, news Alfheim asked if he was a candidate to become a LO leader. “I see that someone has been out and mentioned me in the media, and thinks it’s nice that someone thinks of me as a dugand’s man, but I’m in the nomination committee, so there are absolutely no comments about me or anyone else,” Alfheim said. When news asked him to describe himself, Alfheim replied that he is “a fairly ordinary Norwegian man”. – I am a fairly common Norwegian man in the generation I am. Has been part of the development of the Norwegian welfare state and has a pretty good picture of how we have developed that welfare state, Alfheim said.
