During the UN Climate Conference (COP21) in Paris, 169 countries write under the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement is an international agreement that obliges the world to limit global warming to below 2 degrees, preferably 1.5 degrees, compared to pre -industrial times. In the same year, the UN General Assembly also adopts the 17 sustainability goals, which together with the Paris Agreement will make the world more sustainable by 2030. The Paris Agreement was an expression of a common desire to slow climate change. But this is to be achieved, changes in politics, economy and social structure are required, according to Unc Climate Change. What does the Paris Agreement commit us to? The core of the Paris Agreement is the goal of limiting the temperature increase to well below 2 degrees, and most preferably 1.5. To do this, the world must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43 percent by 2030. This requires all countries to deliver their own national climate targets – so -called “nationally specific contributions” (NDCS), every five years. The Paris Agreement is based on the principle of shared responsibilities, but also recognizes that rich countries must go ahead and support developing countries with both technology and economic resources. Collaboration and sharing of resources is crucial, according to the UN. How far have we come? In order to keep up with the development, an international report is created, called Global Stockake. This is a global review that will evaluate progress and point out what needs to be done to reach the climate goals. The first report on the Paris Agreement covers the period 2015-2020, and was presented at the UN Climate Conference in Dubai in 2025. The conclusion? The world is not on route. Already, the average temperature has risen by 1.1 degrees. The measures that have so far been implemented are not enough to reverse the development. Still, there is hope. The UN Climate Panel (IPCC) stated in 2022 that it is still possible to cut significant amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, but that this requires rapid and extensive changes in everything from energy consumption to transport and food production. According to IPCC, we can actually cut up to 70 percent of emissions by 2050, and this is considered fully feasible. Although major changes may sound scary, researchers believe it will have a great positive effect to adapt in several areas. Good for the planet, good for people to stop climate change is not only positive for climate and nature. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a more sustainable world will also be positive for people’s health. Better air quality, safer food supply, increased quality of life and less pressure on health systems are just some of the effects they have found. Women, children and indigenous peoples will have a lot to gain from the fact that we are taking climate measures. According to a global survey from 2023, conducted by Ipsos, 25 percent of the world’s population believes that the cost of implementing climate measures will be greater than the cost of climate change itself. But figures from the World Economic Forum show that on the contrary it will cost far more not to act. Direct consequences of climate change leading to floods, drought, extreme weather and forest fires already incur huge expenses on society. Data from the World Economic Forum shows that measures to limit climate change will have a positive effect for many. In both Europe and America, an increase in gross domestic product (GDP) of 1.8 per cent by 2070 will be able to increase, if the countries manage to work to lower greenhouse gas emissions. In Asia, you can do what will be a loss of almost $ 100 billion if you do not implement measures, to gain a profit of almost $ 50 billion if you manage to keep the temperature below 1.5 degrees. Global efforts At the beginning of 2025, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, elected to withdraw the country from the Paris Agreement. Nevertheless, 24 of the US governors, leaders of the various states, work together in an alliance to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. The alliance is called United States Climate Alliance, and is an initiative that was started as early as 2017. Together, states make up about 54 percent of the US population, and 57 percent of the national economy. Today, there are 195 countries that work together to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. It is necessary to implement measures to achieve the climate goals, and all countries must join. Although the world is not where it should be to solve the climate crisis, many are working to create change.
\n

\n
ttn-70 <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
On December 12, 2015, 169 countries adopted the Paris Agreement during COP21 in Paris, committing to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius, ideally 1.5.
