In total, revenues came to NOK 15.5 billion, according to preliminary figures from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. – It’s not acceptable. It is important that we build our way, and no one built more way than the Progress Party did when we sat in government, but at the same time we fought against tolls on every occasion. That’s what Frps Per-Willy Amundsen says, and reacts strongly to the new record. The party is now going to election to “discontinue today’s toll funding as well as oppose proposals for the introduction of electronic road pricing”. The words have heard the words before. – Election bottle!, Says Arne Strand, who news meets in Amundsen’s hometown of Harstad. Arne Strand does not think Frp removes the tolls this time either, they should end up in government after the election. Photo: Tora Jarnæs Vold / news-Attacks on the personal economy in 2024 There was no lack of toll heads here in the country: Price jump in the boom ring in Oslo, extended collection of tolls in Oslo and Akershus and increased boom prices in Ålesund and Harstad, were just some of the headlines from last year. In Harstad, the politicians decided at the start of last year to increase the toll rate from NOK 16 to 18. At the same time, the electric car rate was increased from 50 to 70 per cent of ordinary tariffs. Photo: Tora Jarnæs Vold / news Absolutely unnecessary burden of people’s wallet, says the Frp politician. – We believe it is an extra tax that affects extremely unsocial, and which is really a direct attack on the personal economy of most people. People depend on a car, and then we will make sure people can use a car, says Amundsen. Storting representative for the Progress Party, Per-Willy Amundsen. Photo: Tora Jarnæs Vold / news Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Tom Kalsås (Ap), emphasizes that today’s road construction system is structured so that the projects are financed by both state funds and tolls. He also points out that the government wants to keep the toll collection as low as possible. – Is it as low as possible when there has never been as much as now? – It is now due to the fact that there is also a huge development. There are many large projects that are now being realized, which means that more tolls are required, he says. Tom Kalsås, Secretary of State The Ministry of Transport (Ap) Photo: Ole Andreas Bø / news Ready message from voters When Frp last set in government, 165 new toll booths were set up in Norway – an increase of about 97 per cent. This despite the party’s promised voters to remove all the toll booths. In the Frp veteran’s hometown, there is little confidence that the party will now remove the toll booths. – They probably want to do it, but if they get it something else, says Rune Forsaa. – No, not quite, says Arne Strand, when news asks if he thinks the party removes the toll booths. Rune Forsaa understands that tolls can be a necessity to operate and maintain the roads. Photo: Tora Jarnæs Vold / news Amundsen denies that this is an election bottle from the party. – It’s not. This is what we are going for and this is what we are going to show to our voters. Show that we actually deliver on tolls, he says. Even State Secretary Tom Kalsås believes that Frp has very low credibility when it comes to the toll issue. – I think most voters remember what Frp said before they came into government last time – they should remove all toll booths in Norway. As we remember, Ketil Solvik-Olsen put one toll record after another, even though they had both the Minister of Finance and Transport. From NOK 0 to 126 since 2021, worked with E10/Rv. 85 Hålogalandsveien, Northern Norway’s largest transport project in history, ongoing. When the project is completed in 2028, motorists will pass five toll booths on the 82 -kilometer stretch. A journey from Harstad to Sortland will with the cost motorists NOK 126. It is not a toll collection on a stretch where there is no toll collection. – It is absolutely horrible and completely unnecessary. In fact, it is a relatively marginal part of the financing of Hålogalandsveien which is about tolls, says Amundsen. He himself thinks you can carry out large transport projects without tolls, even without going beyond important services such as health and school. It is Tjeldsund – Gullesfjordbotn – Langvassbukt to be built. Photo: The Norwegian Public Roads Administration in Harstad, Else Marie Stenhaug (Ap), has no doubt that there will be a before and after for transport in the city when Hålogalandsveien is completed. – The project means a lot to the region, to us, for traffic safety and how people get between. This is a very important project. – It will be a completely different way of traveling, not least for the villages that have a lot of burden, which is relieved. This is also important in relation to traffic safety and school roads. Mayor of Harstad, Else Marie Stenhaug (Ap).
