– Whether a persistently humid climate can have an impact on the risk of avalanches is a clear yes. That’s what Johan Petter Nystuen says to news. He is a geologist and professor emeritus at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo. On Friday evening there was a landslide in Vals\u00f8yfjord in Heim municipality in Tr\u00f8ndelag. A house went down in the landslide, and an 85-year-old woman died. A further five people were sent to hospital. There were no large amounts of rainfall in the days before, which would indicate that there could be a landslide. Nor has NVE marked danger zones in its maps where the landslide occurred. Set up expert group The Director of Roads has decided that an external expert group will be set up to investigate the landslide, and try to find out what it was that triggered it. – We are reasonably sure that there is probably a connection between the road work and the landslide. Then the further work of the police and the expert group will hopefully provide answers to what has happened, says Ove Nesje, project director for the development of the new road, to news. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has also appointed a crisis staff. Together with the police, they will find the cause of the landslide, says Nesje.
