The Advocate General&#8217;s requisitions thus dismiss the firm part (one year) of the four -year prison sentence which had been pronounced against Mr. Fillon, on May 9, 2022, by the Paris Court of Appeal. The hearing continued in the afternoon with the defense pleadings. The decision should be made on a later date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph  \">Fran\u00e7ois Fillon, 71, has been definitively guilty of the embezzlement of public funds since April 2024, but the Court of Cassation has ordered a new hearing devoted solely to the sentence, in this case which stopped its race for the Elys\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph  \">Back Tuesday before the Paris Court of Appeal, Fran\u00e7ois Fillon spoke of the <em>&#8220;Moral injury&#8221;<\/em> What does it represent for him the ineligibility sentence that had been pronounced against him, although he does not feed any project to return to politics. <em>&#8220;No one will take it from my head that I was treated in a somewhat special way&#8221;<\/em>which has <em>&#8220;Perhaps something to do with the fact that I was a candidate for the presidential election&#8221;<\/em>he said at the helm.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article__sub-title\">Political and media ordeal<\/h2>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph  \">On appeal, on May 9, 2022, the former head of government was sentenced to 4 years&#8217; imprisonment, including 1 year firm, 375,000 euros fine and 10 years of ineligibility for embezzlement of public funds, complicity in abuse of corporate goods, concealments. His wife, Penelope Fillon, had been sentenced to 2 years in prison suspended, as well as 375,000 euros fine, and his exupply, Marc Joulaud, at 3 years in prison suspended, with respective ineligibility of 2 and 5 years. Launched on the track of Ms. Fillon&#8217;s jobs, investigators heard from local gardener to local journalists, including former collaborators and prefects stationed at the time, without finding testimonies establishing the reality of Penelope Fillon&#8217;s work. Fran\u00e7ois Fillon will be eliminated in the first round of the presidential election, arriving third with 20.01 % of the vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph  \">Targeted by another survey opened in 2017 for embezzlement of public funds, Fran\u00e7ois Fillon had agreed to reimburse nearly 70,000 euros, corresponding to the salary and social contributions of an ex-parliamentary assistant, the writer and philosopher Ma\u00ebl Renouard, who had contributed to the writing of one of his books.
