21 residents from a neighboring farm were evacuated when a fire started in the uninhabited block of flats in Elgeseter gate in central Trondheim on Saturday morning. The Jugendg\u00e5rden from 1911 was completely damaged in the fire, which was reported at 6.20am. The fire brigade quickly moved out to the street, which was closed off to traffic. Now the police informs that investigations indicate that the cause of the fire is “supply of open fire”. Accident after intentional act The police’s forensic technicians, the fire service and the Norwegian Electricity Authority carried out investigations in the building on Monday. They show, among other things, that the building was not connected to electricity. The police believe this indicates that the cause of the fire is “injection of open fire” – either by accident or by an intentional act. What other reasons the police have, apart from the fact that the building was not connected to the electrician, police attorney Ane Kolstad Stemre cannot say anything about for the sake of the investigation. – One of the hypotheses is that the fire was set. We believe that the fire started inside, and combined with the other investigations, we believe that the perpetrator or perpetrators must have entered the building, she says to news.
