On 12 May, the government proposed postponing the start of the giant Ocean Space Center project in Trondheim. It set the minds of many on fire. The Labor Party will send out an urgent summons to a press conference about the billion project at Tyholt in Trondheim on Monday afternoon. The message came: The government has changed its mind. Now the project will continue according to the original schedule with construction starting this year. – We have taken many steps to ensure the best possible and strengthened cost management with this project, says the Minister of Fisheries. Photo: Gisle J\u00f8rgensen \/ news Wanted to postpone due to cost issues The cost framework for the project has been 8.2 billion. In the revised national budget, the government proposed reducing the allocation to the marine research center by NOK 405 million. The cost framework will now increase by 837 million, compared with what was in the budget this autumn. – I want to emphasize that having good cost control on this project is important for the government, says Skj\u00e6ran. SV: – Very surprised SV is surprised that the government has turned around. – We are very surprised that the government is carrying out a turnaround operation without it being clarified with SV in the negotiations on the budget as luck goes on now, says SV’s deputy leader, Torgeir Knag Fylkesnes to news. He adds: – We are also surprised that they propose to finance the Ocean Space Center by increasing the framework for the revised budget, which in practice now means an increase in oil money. So far, they have refused to open up to save Norwegian aid through the use of oil money, which in contrast has no significance for inflation. Was furious at his own government Ocean Space Center will be a research center for ocean space technology. The proposal to postpone the giant project came due to great uncertainty related to the costs of building the new center. One of those who reacted strongly to the news of the postponement was county mayor Tore O. Sandvik (Labor Party): – Ocean Space Center can not be postponed, he stated. Together with other Labor leaders in the county, he is furious with his own government after the proposal for postponement. The proposal also has received harsh criticism from organizations such as LO and NHO.
