If I speak out about governments, then what\u2019s going to happen to the AIDS money? What\u2019s going to happen to PEPFAR [The U.S. President\u2019s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief]? I\u2019ve got people\u2019s lives at stake. I have an AIDS foundation that depends on money, and I will go there and fight for it as much as I can,\u201d John said. \u201cBut I cannot go out and say \u2018You\u2019re an asshole. You\u2019re an asshole.\u2019 That\u2019s not what it\u2019s about. You have to negotiate. You have to play the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Famous faces spotted in the audience included The Rolling Stones\u2019 Ron Wood and ABBA\u2019s Bj\u00f6rn Ulvaeus.<\/p>\n<p>John who had disclosed last year that he was dealing with a severe eye infection defied his age with his performance, while audience members not previously familiar with Carlile\u2019s work were gushing about her.<\/p>\n<p>The two performed songs from their upcoming album such as \u201cLittle Richard\u2019s Bible,\u201d with John calling the late legend one of his heroes. They also played \u201cSwing for the Fences\u201d \u2014 an encouragement anthem for the LGBTQIA+ community released earlier this month \u2014 along with the ballad \u201cYou Without Me,\u201d which Carlile shared was inspired by her experience with her daughters.
