A year ago, Toril Lindin saw an advertisement about the wild cat Varg. She had just got a dog, and thought that this cat could be good company for the dog. At the beginning of August, Lindin bought a new fridge. Then two people came to the apartment to collect the old one and install the new one. Lindin is upset that the former wildcat is shy and can hide away. But a couple of days after the new fridge had been installed, she noticed that the cat food was not being eaten. There was no poo in the cat litter either. Then she started looking for Varg. This was the last photo taken of the cat before it disappeared. Photo: Private – I spoke to Kelly’s hope and we came to the conclusion that the cat must have run away when they installed the new fridge, says Lindin. Kelly’s hope is a group that helps people in \u00c5lesund find animals that they miss. Together with the animal friends, they set up a cat trap, in the hope that Varg would return home. But gradually Lindin lost hope, and thought she would have to see the cat lost. – I thought I heard voices in my head until one evening when she was washing dishes in the kitchen, then she suddenly heard meowing. – I thought I heard voices in my head, because my cat didn’t meow, explains Lindin. She went out on the balcony to check if it was the neighbor’s cat making a noise, but it wasn’t. But just before she was about to go to bed, she heard the meowing again. This time she realized that it wasn’t just in her head. Varg was finally found under this fridge. The cat had then been awake for over two weeks. – I didn’t understand anything. I thought, is it possible that he could have lived there for so long, says Lindin. Here you see the cat Varg coming out of the kitchen after being there for over two weeks. – Well done The cat has probably ended up under the fridge when it was replaced and closed in when the plank in front of the fridge was put in place. According to veterinarian Ellef Blakstad, it is a good thing the cat survived for so long. – They can survive without food for so long, but lack of water is more critical. Perhaps the cat has ingested water in other ways, possibly condensation from the fridge, says Blakstad, who is head of the Veterinary Association. Ellef Blakstad Photo: Private He has a tip for other pet owners. – In this case it went well, but it is a useful reminder of the animal owner’s responsibility to have control over where the animal is as best as possible, says Blakstad. Now Lindin says that the former feral cat is just fine, even if he still doesn’t like to be petted. – I try all the time.
