The breakdown occurred in an electrical substation located in DiezMero, a town in the suburbs of Havana, the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph \">With a dilapidated electricity production system, the island of 9.7 million inhabitants has already undergone three widespread breakdowns for the last months of 2024. Two lasted several days, one of which took place during a hurricane. These chronic network failures are added to the economic crisis that the country is going through, the most pronounced for thirty years, which has led to shortages of food, drugs and fuel, as well as a galloping inflation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph \"><em>&#8220;Faced with the unexpected disconnection of the national electrical system, we are already working tirelessly to restore it as quickly as possible&#8221;<\/em>said Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, on X. Shortly before midnight, the authorities said they had restored independent circuits in several provinces, providing electricity to priority sectors. Floating power plants rented to Turkish companies and generators, which complete the national energy system, are fueled by fuels that Cuba is very difficult and which are often in shortage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph \">Faced with the emergency, the government puts double bites to install at least fifty-five Chinese technology solar parks by 2025. According to the authorities, they will produce 1,200 megawatts, or 12 % of the national total. By 2030, Cuba plans to produce more than 2,000 megawatts of solar energy.
