And Thor Trovik has long been involved in the conflict between the professional communities in Tromsø and Bodø. He warned in his time against Bodø getting its own centre, before he later became head of that very centre. – The collaboration is going very well. Everyone is determined to make the best of it, he told news in 2020. But the quarrel was not over, and this summer it became known that the offer in Bodø will be managed by the hospital in Tromsø. Now Trovik has had enough. He quits in protest. It was the newspaper Nordlys that first mentioned the case. Completely nonsensical – Yes, I have applied for leave from my position here in Bodø, says Trovik to news. He will leave on 1 March and has accepted a position in Oslo. What he reacts to is that the University Hospital in Northern Norway, i.e. the hospital in Tromsø, will manage a center in Bodø. – I consider the plan on how this is to be carried forward to be completely nonsensical. A management will be put in place whose primary wish is to close down here, he says, pointing to the center he has managed in Bodø. Thor Trovik moved from Tromsø to Bodø. Now he is moving even further south, to Oslo. Photo: Kari Skeie / news The doctor says that there have been discussions between the professional communities about how to provide the best treatment in the best possible way. – They are very reluctant to use the treatment options in Bodø, claims Trovik. Time matters a lot Helse Nord has recently received a crushing judgment from the State Administrator in Nordland. There it is established that Helse Nord in connection with the PCI case has breached the Specialist Health Services Act on several points. Among other things, it is pointed out that patients from Helgeland have been in danger of being flown over Bodø and to Tromsø, despite the fact that the center in Bodø is open. Trovik also comments on this. – The plan is that patients should be sent past Bodø to the greatest extent possible if there are major heart attacks. This despite the fact that there is a lot of time to be saved by treating them in Bodø. He continues: – These are time-critical cases. Time matters a lot. I perceive this here as so frivolous that I have no desire to participate. The doctor has now been granted leave for a year. He hopes he can return to his job in Bodø, but then he demands that the decision on governance be reversed. – In order to come back, this decision on the transfer of business to UNN must be changed. When asked if this could be the end of the center in Bodø, Trovik replies: – Yes, and that would be entirely according to the wishes of our colleagues from UNN. They probably won’t be particularly upset about it. But it will not be beneficial for patients in Nordland. If there is to be any order to this, I think the politicians in Nordland need to wake up a bit. Here you can read what Helse Nord has to say about the matter: Did as recommended Kim Hannisdal, director of communications and public relations at Helse Nord RHF, tells news that they have no comment on Trovik taking leave. Nor to his statements. – The board made a decision in June, based on clear recommendations from a cardiac medical expert group made up of Nordlandssykehuset, UNN and Helse Nord. The recommendation was to gather PCI treatment in one centre, professionally managed by UNN, with round-the-clock operation in Tromsø and daytime operation in Bodø, says Hannisdal and continues: – The decision will provide clarity about responsibility and decision-making lines in the treatment, for the benefit of the patients. Preparations for the establishment of this center are being made by UNN and Nordlandssykehuset, and we have been informed that it is on track. It will be ready by the New Year. Could be a good collaboration – I have always had great respect for his opinions. That’s what the head of the heart and lung clinic at UNN, Kristian Bartnes, says. The two have been colleagues in Tromsø for several years. Bartnes says he is taking note that the old colleague is now choosing to step down because they will be managed by them. – I believe that the conditions are right for a very good collaboration between UNN and Nordlandsykehuset. I think that the PCI offer in Nordland should be further developed and become even better than today. – I register that the professional environment at Nordlandssykehuset is an ambitious and forward-looking professional environment, says Bartnes in Tromsø. Photo: Oda Viken The clinic manager further says that he registers the disagreement in the professional circles about procedures. – I am glad that Helse Nord has given us a clear procedure. It has been long awaited. He goes on to say that the new procedure will ensure to a greater extent that there is a balance between rapid treatment and the most advanced heart treatment. Bartnes dismisses the fact that the environment in Tromsø wants to close the branch in Bodø. – UNN intends to continue the PCI offer in Bodø. And I will go further than that; we will develop it further.
