It’s raining cats and dogs in Northern Norway. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued an ongoing danger warning for very heavy rain. The most rainfall, however, has been in Nordland, according to on-duty meteorologist Jon Austerheim. Sortland in Vester\u00e5len has been the wettest place to date with a whopping 33.6 millimeters of rainfall. Closely followed by Sandnessj\u00f8en and Lur\u00f8y with 30 millimetres. – This is just the beginning. The warning began this afternoon, so it hasn’t had time to come very much, says Austerheim and adds: – Most of the precipitation is expected to come during the evening and night and perhaps early tomorrow. Up to 50 to 90 millimeters of rain is expected during the next 24 hours. Locally, there may be even more, says the notice. In Narvik, they have steeled themselves and are prepared for whatever may come. Unit leader for roads and parks in Narvik municipality, Trond Solberg says that they are preparing for a hectic day. According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the rain that is expected could be the heaviest we have seen in the last ten years. – It will be challenging in some places, we know that. Then we are a little worried about all the river and stream intakes that we have here in Narvik municipality, says Solberg and adds: – If a little snow comes along with the stream, then they get clogged right away and then there can be quite large floods , so it’s going to be a hectic day. There will be alternative transport. Train departing at 11:24 from Rognan with arrival in Bod\u00f8 at 12:25 p.m. There will be alternative transport. Torghatten Nord has found itself forced to cancel all departures with MF Landegode on the ferry connection Bod\u00f8-R\u00f8st-V\u00e6r\u00f8y-Moskenes on Tuesday.
