Police prosecutor Merete Sundal confirms that it is the offended woman who is charged in the case. It was not the woman herself who reported the case to the police. – The accused does not admit criminal guilt, says lawyer Lene Knapstad to news. Obtain a lot of information In a press release, the police write that they have obtained and gone through large amounts of investigative material, and that they have used large resources on the case. – The collected material has led us to believe that there has not been a rape, says section leader Askel Rødland in the West police district. He said that the police started a rather large and comprehensive investigation after they received the case. – We have obtained a lot of investigative material, interviewed more than 50 witnesses, obtained video surveillance, telephone data and extensive forensic trace investigations. The police are now in the initial investigation given the new charge. – It is important to clarify that no one has been convicted or charged in the case, says Rødland. Used a lot of resources The police have used a lot of resources on the case and the investigation. At most ten to twelve policemen and women worked on the case. – A large apparatus was underway in the initial phase and on the way until we had interviewed the relevant witness and collected the necessary documentation. We have used a good deal of resources to go through and ensure the quality of that information, says Rødland
