Around 40 centimeters of snow has fallen in most places in Agder in the last 24 hours. This has led to problems in traffic. But later in the day, driving conditions can become even more difficult. Higher temperatures in the evening can make for very slippery roads. A flood warning has now also been issued for large parts of the Skagerak coast. The temperature will rise – Always when you have transitions, either plus or minus, there will be a period when it will be quite smooth, says state meteorologist Pernille Borander. Tuesday will be the coldest day in Southern Norway this week. But from the afternoon the temperature will rise. – In the coastal areas, and not least the Grimstad area, which has received quite a lot of snow, will be on the positive side throughout the afternoon, she says. – But you won’t go far inland before it snows tomorrow too, says Borander. Ole Petter Ruud in the Swedish Traffic Agency says they continue to work continuously with plowing throughout the day. – In places where it has stopped snowing, we ensure that the plowing is completed, and then we will start preventive littering measures in the places that are most exposed. Now that there has been continuous snow, you know at some point that it will turn to sleet and rain, he explains. – Then it will also be easier to work from that, because then you are already out in the places. If there is unexpected rainfall, it will be even more difficult. Danger of flooding The Norwegian Directorate of Water Resources and Energy has now issued a danger warning for flooding. The warning applies to the coast from Lindesnes to Telemark. There can be a lot of storm water in densely built-up areas, in addition to large streams and small rivers all around. It can also affect traffic. – You have to be observant and follow along, says hydrologist on duty at NVE, Elin Langsholt. The snow that has fallen over the past 24 hours will turn into heavy rain during the night to Wednesday. – With all the rainfall today and what will come tomorrow and Thursday, we expect it to be very wet, and the flood warning is at yellow level. There may be road closures all around. She encourages people to check if the roads are closed before they set out for a drive. In the cities along the coast and in flat densely built-up areas, water can collect and cause local damage. More accidents in the last 24 hours The last 24 hours have been characterized by a number of traffic accidents and accidents. In Vestfold and Telemark alone, over 50 accidents were registered yesterday. Among them one fatal accident. – Winter always comes as a bit of a shock. And when there are a few extra amounts it doesn’t help, says state meteorologist Pernille Borander to news. A car ended up on its roof in Åmli in Agder after slipping on the slippery road. In Risør, a person was sent to hospital after the car overturned on the smooth road on county road 416. There were kilometer-long queues on both sides of the road after the accident, writes Aust-Agder Blad. On Monday, state meteorologist Rafael Escobar Løvdahl was out and asked people to plan for plenty of time on the roads. – There can be quite a lot of pressure on the roads when we get so much snow in a short time. Andreas Stange in the road traffic center in Agder says it can be even smoother. – Now it’s winter. It is important that people are aware of that. That they have winter tires and adjust their speed, says Larsen. The plowing crews have been working hard throughout the night and into the morning hours on Tuesday. In Arendal, a wheel loader has become stuck in connection with plowing. But work is being done to get it released. At Risør, a car ended up on its side and closed county road 416. A change of weather is therefore underway, which can mean very slippery roads. Geared up for a lap on the light track, Bjørn Bergshaven took his skis to work this morning. – When it is not plowed all the way to the door, it is nice to take the opportunity. Because we know here in Sørlandet that the snow can be gone the next day, says the baker from Grimstad. Baker in Grimstad, Bjørn Bergshaven took up his skis this morning.
