Woke up by the car driving itself – again – news Sørlandet – Local news, TV and radio

– There was a violent leprosy on the outside. I ran out and saw that the car was standing and leaning against the railing. The 4-wheel drive was engaged and it pushed on with tremendous force, says Ole Gunnar Selås in Froland. The car owner says that he woke up to a crash at four o’clock on the night of 1 May. He managed to get into the car and somehow suffocated it. – I am glad that there was gravel under the car and that it overturned. Otherwise, the wrought iron railing would probably have given way and the car would have gone downhill, he says. According to Selås, the fence has suffered significant damage. The car has also received a bigger boost than last time. Because it is not the first time the car has taken on a life of its own. Ole Gunnar Selås managed to stop the wayward car. For the second time in less than a year, the car has started itself. Photo: Asbjørn Odd Berge / news Worried about self-willed car In August last year, news wrote about the same car that drove off on its own. At the time, the car, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was crossing a small lawn. Then it drove over the curbs in the parking lot outside his workplace. Selås admits that he is worried about the wayward car. – The wife was also not particularly enthusiastic about the car after the previous round. And it’s not exactly better when it happens again. See what happened the last time the car drove by itself: Have a theory The last time the car went for a drive, it was carefully checked by the Toyota workshop in Arendal. It was also then that the starter motor pulled the car forward. This was replaced, as well as a number of wires. That it happens again is therefore very surprising, says Selås. – I have to talk to the workshop again. After all, we had a major service round on the car after the previous trip. Selås wants to keep the car, and he has a theory as to what is wrong. A relay is connected to the ignition. Selås has his own theory on what happened. He thinks there may be a fault with the car’s ignition. Photo: Asbjørn Odd Berge / news He believes he is far from alone in his experience. – I think there are large dark figures. Both times I have received inquiries from car owners and others who tell of similar incidents. Selås now only parks next to barriers. This should prevent the car from taking its third turn on its own. – This could have been very dangerous if it had happened somewhere with people and traffic, he says. Both the car and the wrought iron fence have taken a real beating. He doubts that self-starting cars are a common phenomenon. – I have been in the business since 1986 and have never experienced anything like this car. He himself was responsible for the Land Cruiser after the previous incident. – There is something very wrong with the electrical system. It will be very demanding and expensive to find out about such an old car. Hvidsten would recommend that the car be disconnected from the battery. – Otherwise it can be scary and cause damage to both people and cars, says the experienced workshop manager. It is very rare for cars to drive by themselves. That’s what technical manager at the Toyota workshop in Arendal, Jan Kenneth Hvidsten, says Photo: Private
