William Poromaa takes action with the energy leaks – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– I have been a little unnecessarily upset a few times. But that’s the way I am too, so I just have to learn, says Poromaa. news has been granted an exclusive visit to the Italian mountain paradise of Livigno. The 23-year-old is sitting in shorts outside the substantial villa he has rented alone for a week, since he came third in both distance races during the World Cup in Les Rousses, France. – It’s been me and the ghost team, says the man who is quite simply the toughest competitor to the Norwegian cross-country men in the upcoming world championships in Planica. Finally, William Poromaa has taken the step from great talent to medal candidate. – The goal is to win a medal. I feel that I have been there to see and learn, I have attended two championships, an Olympics and a World Cup, so I know how things go. So I hope to be able to climb onto the podium, I will do everything I can to be there, he says. A LITTLE TOO ANGRY: William Poromaa realizes that he is wasting too much energy in the Tour de Ski. Photo: Terje Pedersen / NTB – A lot of mental energy leakage But there is one thing he should preferably avoid in order to make it. Earlier in the season, there were a little too many energy leaks. Poromaa pulled a smile when news confronted him about what happened in the Tour de Ski. There he first criticized the slopes in Val Müstair. Then he was critical of Norwegian rivals for not having done any work along the way in a joint start. In Val di Fiemme he crossed the skis of a Frenchman – and was disqualified. – There is probably a lot of mental energy leakage, I think. Focusing on things that you cannot influence is pointless, he now acknowledges. – Trying to learn a lesson He is self-deprecating about what happened, but make no secret of the fact that he would now prefer to avoid more of the same until the WC medals are handed out. – I try to learn a lesson. You learn new things all the time, so you just have to take it in and dare to acknowledge that there are things you can do better all the time, and that’s what I’ve tried to do, he says. news’s cross-country expert Torgeir Bjørn believes that Poromaa has realized something important. – In the Tour de Ski he was whiny and there was a bit of unnecessary use of energy. He is wise to focus on skiing, says Bjørn. IDYL: 16 minus in the morning turns into shorts weather when the February sun shines down on William Poromaa. Photo: Anders Skjerdingstad / news Take care of the sun In Livigno, there has so far been little energy leakage. On the day news is visiting, the scale shows minus 16 at nine o’clock in the morning. That is why William Poromaa is not out then. – I must have slept for quite a long time. The sun comes up quite late here, so I try to take care of him, sleep in in the morning and take it easy, and then I go skiing, he says. At 10.30 the sun comes over the mountain range, and then it immediately starts to drip from the roofs. Then it doesn’t take many minutes before Poromaa comes out the door, strolls the fifty meters down to the track, straps on his skis and is gone for three hours. – In the first week, it has looked like there have been quite long sessions. I just took it easy, slid on the skis and tried to get into it well, he says. – The dream is gold Poromaa firmly believes that long hikes at 1,800 meters altitude are what is needed to be in top shape for the WC. That’s why he will stay until he heads for Planica on 15 February to secure the medal he has as his goal – preferably already in the first practice, 30 km skiathlon on 24 February. IS THE KING COMING? William Poromaa a falubasket to put Norwegian rivals checkmate in the World Cup. Photo: Anders Skjerdingstad / news The dream is naturally even a little more hairy: – The dream is to win WC gold, of course. That’s what I dream about and work for every single day, he says. Then he goes into the large living room and sits down with a lunch plate. Pasta and sausage with ketchup. In front of him is a chessboard. You don’t need to be a mind reader to understand which piece William Poromaa would most like to be associated with. If he is to become the next ski king, the energy must be channeled correctly. If he can do it, most things are possible, according to Torgeir Bjørn. – He is one of the few who can challenge Norway over distance in the WC. It’s him and Iivo Niskanen. In the skiathlon and five-mile, he is a very real medal candidate, states the expert.
