15 September 2023 at 11:38 Defendant for the murder charge: Will not explain himself to the police The man charged with the murder of Jonas Aarseth Henriksen says he does not trust the police and thus will not explain himself. The man’s defender Ellen Tvedt Jorem at the Elden law firm tells news. Lawyer Thomas Nordby at Elden also defends the man. – Our client does not consent to detention. He is clear that he has nothing to do with the murder he is accused of, and does not plead guilty. The man’s defenders believe that the conditions for detention are not present, and have petitioned for his release. – Based on our client’s previous experience with the police, and the arrest in this case, he has expressed to lawyer Randby and me that he does not trust the police. He has therefore, in consultation with lawyer Randby and me, chosen to make use of his right not to explain himself to the police at this time, says Jorem. Even if the man does not consent to imprisonment, the imprisonment meeting therefore goes on as so-called office business today. This means that the parties themselves are not present in court, and is often done when the issue of imprisonment appears obvious. – The massive media interest in this case means that we want to minimize the burden on our client in this very demanding situation. Therefore, our advice to him has been to deal with the question of detention in writing with the court and the police. He has chosen to follow that advice, and we have therefore submitted our observations in writing to the court, says Jorem. The defense attorneys also confirm that the accused has a previous criminal conviction. – But it is important for us to point out that these previous relationships are of a far less serious nature compared to the relationship he is now charged with, says Jorem. – Our client hopes that the police will now focus on a broad investigation of the case so that they can find the person or persons behind the actions in this tragic case.
