Many are now returning to work after the end of their summer holidays. In a press release, Widerøe writes that they have never before flown as many passengers to work as in this month of July. – Whether this is a sign that many have changed the time for their holiday is unknown. At the same time, several projects are underway in the oil and energy sector which contribute to increased travel activity throughout our route network, Widerøe writes in a press release. Widerøe believes the increase is partly due to Coolcation and the lucrative krone exchange rate for foreign tourists. – Widerøe has daily flights filled with foreign tourists. Weather refugees from European countries affected by heat waves have sought fresh air and lower temperatures here in Norway, Widerøe states in a press release. Capacity in July was 7 per cent lower than the same period last year, and 8 per cent higher than the previous month. The cabin factor of 83.5 per cent is up four percentage points compared to July 2023. The cabin factor on the tender network ended at 64 per cent. There is a sharp increase since July 2023 with a 57 percent cabin factor. Norwegian had 2.85 million passengers in July and had the highest number of passengers since 2019. Strong increase to Lofoten and Vesterålen The midsummer routes between Oslo and Lofoten have been among the most popular routes for foreign tourists. Several of the departures are exclusively filled with foreign passengers, according to Widerøe. Individual routes and areas contribute strongly to this increase, where Lofoten and Vesterålen, in addition to Helgeland, increase the cabin factor in total. – We are very satisfied with how July ended. This is what commercial director at Widerøe, Christian Skaug, says and continues: – Record-high cabin factor in July gives us extra energy into August, when both new and regular customers will be flying with us. – At the same time, I would like to extend a big thank you to all colleagues in Widerøe who together pulled the load through a demanding summer, stood up on days off and assisted colleagues when needed. The fact that the figures look so good for July is everyone’s merit, concludes Skaug. Published 06.08.2024, at 08.12 Updated 06.08.2024, at 08.29
