Cristian Auguadra: New Head of the State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE)

Transition of Leadership

The recent announcement of Cristian Auguadra as the new head of the State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE) marks a significant transition in the Argentine intelligence community. Following the departure of Sergio Neiffert, Auguadra’s appointment was made official through Decree 852/2025, as confirmed by President Javier Milei and Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni. Until now, Auguadra has kept a relatively low profile but is known to be a trusted associate of presidential advisor Santiago Caputo.

Background and Experience

Cristian Ezequiel Auguadra, a trained public accountant from the University of Morón, began his tenure in public administration in July 2024. His prior position was as the Inspector General of the Internal Affairs Division (DAI), where he played a critical role in overseeing resource management across multiple agencies. With a background in tax advice, legal consulting, project management, and risk management, Auguadra brings a wealth of expertise to the SIDE.

“His appointment will allow for deepening the technical and operational modernization of the organization,” officials noted in a public statement.

Restructuring of the National Intelligence System

Auguadra’s appointment coincides with a planned restructuring of the National Intelligence System (SIN), which includes the establishment of new specialized offices such as the Argentine Intelligence Service (SIA), National Security Agency (ASN), and Federal Cybersecurity Agency (AFC). The DAI, in particular, was designed to enhance accountability through rigorous auditing of intelligence operations.

The Departure of Sergio Neiffert

Neiffert did not resign but requested a cessation of his position amid reports of internal tensions, particularly with Caputo and the General Secretariat of the Presidency’s Karina Milei. The last time Neiffert was seen publicly was during the swearing-in of the new Minister of National Security, Alejandra Monteoliva. Despite his previous achievements in organizing and auditing internal processes, the administration felt a change was necessary to align with the government’s broader objectives.

Future Prospects

With Auguadra at the helm, authorities hope to implement a modernized and efficient intelligence framework that meets international standards. The focus now lies on establishing an agile, integrated intelligence model that can adapt to the changing demands of national security.

This pivotal change in leadership is expected to usher in a new era for SIDE, aligning its operations more closely with the evolving requirements of the Argentine government and its security landscape.
