The WHO said in May that there are around 10,000 people in Gaza who should have been evacuated because they need urgent medical help, writes AFP. Vaccinates against polio The conditions in the war zone also mean that rare diseases flourish. Last month, the first round of vaccination of over half a million children started, after polio was detected in Gaza for the first time in 25 years. Last week they started the second round of vaccinations. The campaign is a collaboration between, among others, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, WHO, the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Humanitarian breaks are a condition for being able to provide vaccines and health care in Gaza, says the WHO. – In areas with humanitarian breaks, the campaign not only provided vaccines, but also a wink of peace, said Rik Peeperkorn, who is WHO’s representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, in connection with the start of the second round of vaccines.
