Let’s explain what is Gemini for Home, the innovative way Google is integrating its artificial intelligence into Google Home speakers and other smart devices. With this transition, users can bid farewell to the traditional Google Assistant, as everything will now rely on advanced AI technology.

We will start by delving into these systems’ functionalities and highlight some remarkable features users can look forward to. Furthermore, we will discuss its anticipated arrival and the essential topic: What will be the price, since this service requires a subscription.

What is Gemini for Home

Gemini for Home is the AI-powered version designed specifically for connected devices. Traditionally, if you’ve owned one of Google’s connected speakers, interactions were facilitated through the Google Assistant. Now, with Gemini, users can enjoy a more seamless, intuitive experience thanks to artificial intelligence.

A major limitation of Google Assistant has been its occasional failure to understand user commands accurately, often necessitating awkward phrasing or overly formal language. With Gemini, you can interact in a natural, conversational manner. This significant improvement simplifies interactions and enhances the overall user experience.

Gemini for Home makes all your smart devices smarter, allowing you to control them using natural language commands, as well as via the Google Home app. For instance, you can instruct it to turn on the lights or play a specific song in your kitchen, and Gemini will adeptly manage the connected smart devices within your ecosystem to fulfill that request.

To operate effectively, Gemini Live is the version of the AI embedded within your speaker or smart screen. This allows for interactive dialogue, where the AI listens and responds after you’ve completed your request. Essentially, this is the same Gemini Live that users can engage with on their mobile devices or through a web browser, facilitating a similar conversational mode.

An exciting aspect of Gemini is that, beyond simply managing home tasks, you can also ask it various questions. Whether it’s curiosity about a topic or asking for advice, Gemini’s AI capabilities extend well beyond home automation.

Gemini will also weave itself into the redesigned Home application, utilizing AI for functions such as monitoring Nest cameras and controlling speakers or Google Home. The improved application will feature a Home section showcasing your home’s layout, a new activity tab displaying your household’s history, and tools to configure automation for different devices.

With Gemini for Home, you will be able to do everything you could do with the Google Assistant. Essentially, the Google Assistant will be phased out in favor of Gemini. This means you can command the AI to adjust lights, play music, set reminders—essentially anything you desire.

On the assistant-related functionality, Google has revamped the architecture of Gemini to handle multimedia, home coordination, and smart home capabilities adeptly.

Moreover, Gemini will feature a more human-like voice, offering users a selection of ten different voices. This way, interactions will feel less robotic and more akin to conversing with another person.

Additionally, users can ask AI questions unrelated to home management, such as weather forecasts or technology tips. For instance, you could inquire about the most suitable day for a barbecue or troubleshooting advice for your computer.

As with Gemini on mobile or web, when you ask a question and receive an answer, you can pose follow-up inquiries seamlessly. If you ask for guidance on fixing a dishwasher and provide additional context about what you’ve attempted, Gemini will understand and offer relevant suggestions.

There’s also a command called Let’s chat which initiates a conversation with Gemini Live, creating a flow of dialogue similar to that of mobile interactions.

How much does it cost and when it arrives

GEMINI for Home will require a subscription. Two different tiers are proposed, detailed as follows:

  • Standard: 10 dollars per month: Provides Homi Gemini, Gemini Live, and automation features. Also includes a 30-day history for events and videos.
  • Advanced: 20 dollars per month: Includes all standard features, along with access to video history, AI notifications, descriptions, a 60-day event history, and 24/7 video access.

These plans will be incorporated into Gemini’s existing payment subscription. For example, if you’re already subscribed to Google AI Pro, you’ll receive Gemini’s standard plan at no additional charge. Similarly, subscribers to Google AI Ultra will automatically receive the advanced plan included in their package.

Gemini for Home is set to begin rolling out in October as an early access feature across all devices launched since 2015. Initially, this rollout will be limited to the United States, with no confirmed launch date for Spain or other regions as of yet.
