We should have agreed to news Debatten – Ytring

Yesterday we should have been present at the Debate on news and explained what we are doing so that those who struggle financially will get better. The decision not to run because of the ongoing negotiations on the state budget seemed right on Tuesday afternoon. It is difficult to debate on TV when things are on the table in negotiations, but after watching the Debate on Poverty on Tuesday night, we just want to say it as it is: It was a wrong decision on our part. We should have been there. First and foremost to listen to the women who exposed their lives and stories about what it is like to live with poor finances when everything around us becomes more expensive. We could contribute with solutions. About how we are going to meet the challenges that our country is facing. In the debate we could say that we are scrapping the qualifying year in the AAP scheme. This means that those who are no longer entitled to AAP are guaranteed an income. We could talk about the measures to get more young people into work and education, or the long-awaited increase in child benefit for single parents. In the debate, we could have been clear that we will go through the rules between unemployment benefit and other social security benefits to make sure that people who are partially disabled will not be given poorer opportunities to participate in working life. In the debate, we were also able to tell what we have prioritized in terms of nursery prices and half-day places at SFO. And that together with SV in last year’s budget we ensured that child benefit will no longer be part of the calculation basis for social assistance. In the debate, we were able to explain that the most important reason why the Labor Party prioritizes a tight budget is to bring down the rise in prices and reduce interest rates. It is most important for the low-paid. But most importantly, we could be dead honest that we need to deliver more. Much more! When people’s lives are pressured by inflation, electricity and war, it is more important than ever that we have a social democratic policy that contributes to security. We have to achieve that together. An empty pulpit cannot explain this. Next time we say yes. Next time we’ll be there.
