On the third floor of the public prosecutor’s office in the Krakow region, there is a document on the table. On the paper is the name of a Norwegian man in his 20s. This is where public prosecutor Janusz Hnatko works, who is responsible for the prosecution in the case where the Bergen-based man is accused of having killed a Polish woman. The man is also charged with kidnapping their common child. – He kidnapped a little girl, so we assume that the motive for his violent act is linked to the child, says Hnatko. LOCATION: Behind this door lived the deceased woman with her daughter. Photo: Adrian Nyhammer Olsen / news Probably killed at night The murder must have happened on the night of Saturday. The woman was found dead in the bedroom of the apartment in Oświęcim. A bloody kitchen knife was found at the scene. The discovery was made at 5pm on Saturday and the man was arrested at 10pm the same evening. According to Google, it takes about 13 hours to drive from Oświęcim to Copenhagen. THINKS THE MOTIVE IS CLEAR: – He kidnapped a little girl, so we assume that the motive for his violent act is linked to the child, says Hnatko. Photo: Adrian Nyhammer Olsen / news The child probably slept in a different room than the room where the woman was killed, news is told. In addition to the knife, we secured other evidence that proves that the killer is the man who kidnapped the child, says Hnatko. He says that the police have a clear picture of what happened, but that they will not answer questions about whether witnesses heard screams at night. Drove to the Czech Republic From Oświęcim is the fastest way out of Poland to the south to the Czech Republic. It was also this way the man took, says Hnatko. – After the murder, the man took the woman’s car. But he did not drive north towards Norway, but towards the Czech Republic and on to Germany and Denmark, says Hnatko. news is informed that Polish police believe this indicates that the act was planned. With regard to the investigation, Hnatko will not go into detail about what evidence the police have. DRIVING ROUTE: The man took the fastest route out of Poland and drove south-west to the Czech Republic. The woman will undergo an autopsy today The little girl came home to Oświęcim on Tuesday, according to Polish media. The deceased woman will undergo an autopsy on Tuesday. – The autopsy is expected to reveal the cause of death and with which weapon. Although this is clear from the evidence, we have to get it confirmed, says Hnatko. The man accused of murder was remanded in custody for 72 hours in Copenhagen at the weekend. He will appear in a new constitutional hearing on Wednesday morning. Constitutional interrogation is a Danish legal procedure for imprisoning people suspected of a crime. Poland has sent Denmark a European arrest warrant, and thus requested that he be extradited. – If the judge believes that the grounds for extradition are present, he will then be remanded in custody until an extradition can take place, says a spokesperson for the police to news. There will probably be closed doors at the constitutional hearing. Hi! I am in Poland covering the murder case where a young Norwegian man is accused of having killed the woman he had a child with.
