– I had brought him along, says Åge Hareide. On Tuesday, national team manager Ståle Solbakken will present the squad that will face the Czech Republic and Slovakia towards the end of March. There, Solbakken is wise to give Patrick Berg competition for the place in the central midfield, Hareide believes. In the comeback for Molde, Mats Møller Dæhli has delivered strongly against international opposition. Therefore, Hareide believes that the midfielder will now return to the national team. – In that position, he can actually take up the fight with Berg, says Hareide. Photo: Svein Ove Ekornesvåg / NTB – Extremely good Some believe that Møller Dæhli has been treated disrespectfully in recent years. Recently, TV2’s expert Yaw Amankwah took up the topic in the podcast “Spiss Vinkel”. There he said that Dæhli has been ridiculed and reacted strongly to how several Norwegian football fans are said to have referred to Møller Dæhli: – That he is a finished player and a “happy go lucky” player who has strayed into the national team. I think it’s a shame, said Amankwah about the review. The football expert believes Møller Dæhli is one of the smartest footballers with a Norwegian passport. Hareide also thinks so, who refers to Dæhli’s strong play in his last match. Last week, Molde beat Belgian Brugge 2-1 in the European Cup. – Dæhli was extremely good. Now he has shown himself in Europe. It has been useful, says Hareide. Before returning to Molde, Dæhli played for Nürnberg and Genk. – He may not have been in the limelight as much as some other players. NOT SURPRISED: Åge Hareide tells news that he is not surprised if Mats Møller Dæhli is in the next national team squad. Photo: Carina Johansen / NTB Uncertain coach Coach Erling Moe says that the central midfield strategist Dæhli also faced skepticism in Molde. – He really lit up the way we intended to use him. I know there were doubters out there who asked questions about it, but we have been safe there, says Moe. – Should he enter the national team again? – I think they have control over that. He has been in the squad for a long time. – But in that role? – I think it would have been fantastic if he could be here at home during the national team break and polish up for the start of the series. Ståle (Solbakken) certainly has good control over this. But that he is good, and performs that role in the way we want it to be performed, we are happy about that, says Moe. MIGHTY IMPRESSED MOE: Molde coach Erling Moe is happy that Mats Møller Dæhli has settled in so quickly in Molde. Photo: Tore Ellingseter / news – Sunt Hareide believes Dæhli has a good basis to excel in Molde anyway. He calls Dæhli the buy of the year in the elite series. And perhaps the 28-year-old will be this year’s challenger in the national team. – It is only healthy to have good competition. He has some of the same qualities as Patrick Berg too. He is quick on his feet, has functional technique and plays forward when he can play forward, says Hareide. He has allowed himself to be impressed by these qualities at Dæhli: Good as a stabilizing and ball-distributing piece at the back of Molde’s midfield Technically strong with both legs. Can turn the game around quickly in midfield – It is incredibly valuable in international matches to be able to play diagonally through the opponent like Mads does, says Hareide. COMPETITORS: Can Patrick Berg get competition in the national team? Yes, thinks Åge Hareide. Photo: Kasper Holgersen / news
