Want young offenders to be sentenced more quickly – Latest news – news

23 October 2023 at 14:16 Wants young offenders to be sentenced more quickly The Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness is today issuing a commission to investigate the establishment of a fast track for processing criminal cases against young offenders in Oslo. – Young people who commit crime must be met with a swift response. The long waiting time between the offense and the reaction can be a great burden for both the victim and the next of kin. There is also a risk that young people will commit new offences, so there must be a quick reaction. Fast criminal proceedings will be able to help prevent recidivism and recruitment into criminal networks, says Minister of Justice and Emergency Emilie Mehl (Sp). Mehl has now asked the Court Administration, in collaboration with the Directorate of Police, the Directorate of Correctional Services, the Attorney General and the Secretariat for Conflict Councils, to investigate the establishment of a fast track for processing criminal cases, preferably at the Oslo district court. The investigation must be delivered by the end of the year and will form the basis for the further follow-up in the ministry.
