Walked three kilometers with one ski – still beat Northug – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– Hopeless! This is how Morten Eide Pedersen from Team Eksjöhus describes the experience in Sexten, Italy. With 15 kilometers to go, out of the total 6.2 mile long race, things went wrong. The Norwegian rushed to make up for the breach in front of him, but instead there was a crash, a fall and a broken binding. – It was my own fault. There were two boys in the break and I was quite far ahead and on my way to catch up with them. I was going to pass a runner at too high a speed and got caught in the edge of the snow. Then I also destroyed the binding. As you can see in the video, I try to get further down the valley, but the ski fell off again and then I had to walk with one foot, he explains to news. For a full three kilometers the Norwegian had to make do with one ski, before the greaser gave him a new one. – Should I bother with this?, Pedersen thought when the accident was over. – You realize that the race is over and I mostly wanted to just give up, he admits. But the 36-year-old gritted his teeth and got to test his balance. – It’s been a long time since I’ve gone skiing, and a run through is nice. So I tried to keep things going when I first got going again, says Pedersen. DID NOT GIVE UP: Pedersen took the rest of the race as a good run through. Here from the season opening at Beitostølen. A small consolation is that he beat Petter Northug Jr. who is still number 42. 42nd place: “Who is that?”, Northug replied to Pedersen’s criticism. Photo: NTB – I get a little worried about what he is doing, says Pedersen with a smile, and adds: – I don’t know how much he has been out training, his form had started to improve before Christmas. But he must have eaten a little too much Christmas food. Northug responds briefly to the criticism. – Who is it?, he wrote in a text message to news. MARCIALONGA: The big goal of the season is Marcialonga. Here is a picture from the starting line last year. Photo: NTB – I would like to knock off the Ragde boys Pedersen, who have previously come third overall in Ski Classics, well, look at the experience positively. – The team has had a good weekend anyway. We have so many strong runners and today I had three men in the top ten. There are many positives to take with you. Andreas Nygaard won the race and Kasper Stadaas was second. Both Norwegians drive for Team Ragde Charge, and have been in great form this season. Pedersen now looks ahead. – What is the goal for next weekend? – The podium! I miss first place. I would like to knock off those Ragde boys. The Pedersens are also aiming for a traditional classic on 28 January: – It’s just a matter of building up towards the big goal, Marcialonga.
