– This means that no matter how much electricity you use in the future, it does not affect the electricity bill, says investment director Robert Næss at Nordea. The electricity price is going to be low in the coming days. We are heading into Christmas and then the industry uses little electricity. Normally, Norwegians spend a lot at work, but now people have time off. Then consumption goes down and prices are lower. – It will be colder, at least on Christmas Eve, but it is not enough to make up for the reduced consumption we see in business and industry. There will be little consumption and thus low prices, says Marius Holm Rennesund in Thema Consulting. The math on the electricity price – It is most likely that the prices will stay low and then it will be free for the rest of the year, says investment director Robert Næss at Nordea. Photo: Nordea Robert Næss at Nordea has calculated how the electricity costs for Christmas will be in southern Norway. From 1 December up to and including 24 December, the average electricity price has been NOK 3.13 per kilowatt-hour (kW/h). On Christmas Eve, the price will be NOK 1.42 per kW/h. If the same price continues for the rest of the year (25-31 December), the average for December will be 2.74 per kW/h. The electricity subsidy is designed so that it is based on the average price for the whole month. It gives 90 percent of the price of what you have paid over 70 øre per kW/h. With an average price for December of NOK 2.74 per kW/h, you will thus be covered up to NOK 1.84 per kW/h. As a price of around NOK 1.42 kW/h is expected for the rest of the year, this means that you will receive more in support than you pay for the electricity. – There is an electricity tax of 15 øre and internet rent in addition. It will be just over 40 øre in total. In practice, this means exactly zero price, says Næss. – People must be careful, Næss nevertheless warns that we must keep an eye on how electricity prices will be in the coming days. If the price is 1.42 before VAT for the rest of the month, his calculation will be correct. Should the price rise to two or three kroner again, it is not right – It is most likely that the price will stay low and then it will be free for the rest of the year. The price of gas has come down and large-scale industry in Europe is partially closed, and then prices will be low. Higher in the new year Marius Holm Rennesund in Thema Consulting Photo: Hanna Hiim Sindre / news The period of practically free electricity will only last until December. In January, there will be a new basis for the electricity subsidy. In addition, it is expected that prices will rise, although not as much as previously feared. – In the new year, we have to expect higher prices. In January and February, prices will rise to over 2.50 per kW/h, but there are still significantly better prospects than what we had a few weeks ago, says Rennesund. This is largely due to the fact that gas prices have fallen significantly in the last week and this also affects electricity prices in the Nordic region. – Now the fear of not getting through the winter has lessened somewhat. We have relatively full gas storages and it is good to have ships with liquefied natural gas coming in, says Rennesund.
