14 January 2024 at 09:08 Volcanic eruption in Iceland A new volcanic eruption has started in Iceland, reports the Icelandic broadcaster RUV. On Saturday, an evacuation notice was sent out to the approximately 4,000 inhabitants of Grindavík. They then had until Monday evening to leave the city. This is the fifth eruption on the Reykjaneshalvøya since 2021. Just before Christmas, the inhabitants of Grindavík were also evacuated in connection with an eruption just north of the town.
